A Year of Trials Begins

The Hogwarts Express finally arrived at Hogsmeade Station, and students poured out onto the platform, excited chatter filling the air. Ezekiel, Daphne, Alys, and their friends stepped off the train, ignoring the whispers and curious glances directed at them.

As they made their way toward the castle, Ezekiel couldn't help but notice the added security—Aurors stationed at various points, their watchful gazes scanning the students. The presence of Dementors outside Hogwarts had everyone on edge, especially after the Wizengamot's debate over their placement.

Daphne sighed, glancing at the distant figures of the Dementors near the gates. "I hate those things. They make the air feel heavy."

Ezekiel nodded. "They're predators that feed on fear and despair. Their presence alone can cause unease. Just make sure you have chocolate on hand."

Adrian Selwyn grinned, patting his robes. "Already stocked up."

With that, they made their way up to the castle, where the Great Hall was already set up for the Welcoming Feast.

First-year students nervously entered, their wide eyes darting around the vast hall. Among them was Astoria Greengrass, Daphne's younger sister.

Daphne gave her a reassuring smile, while Alys whispered encouraging words as Astoria made her way toward the front.

The Sorting Hat barely touched her head before calling out—

"SLYTHERIN!"

The Slytherin table erupted into cheers, and Daphne clapped, watching her sister take a seat among her new housemates.

After the last student was sorted, Dumbledore stood. His usual twinkle of mischief was absent, replaced by a more serious expression.

"Welcome to another year at Hogwarts," he began. "As you are all aware, we are in uncertain times. Sirius Black, a dangerous fugitive, remains at large, and for the first time in Hogwarts' history, Dementors have been stationed around the grounds as a precaution."

Murmurs spread across the hall, and Ezekiel caught several younger students looking fearful.

Dumbledore raised his hand for silence. "I must warn you—Dementors are not to be trifled with. They do not distinguish between their prey. Under no circumstances should any student approach them."

Ezekiel exchanged a look with Daphne. This year would be different from all the others.

After the feast, Ezekiel walked with Daphne toward the Ravenclaw and Slytherin dormitories, where the newly married couple's living arrangements were discussed.

Since married students were permitted private quarters, they had been given a shared living space near the Ravenclaw Tower.

As they entered their new quarters, Daphne looked around, impressed.

"It's cozier than I expected," she said, trailing her fingers along one of the bookshelves. "I suppose this is our home for the school year."

Ezekiel wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her closer. "One of many. But I do prefer having you here rather than in the Slytherin dorms."

She smirked, pressing a kiss to his jaw. "I'm sure you do."

Before things could escalate, a knock sounded at their door.

Ezekiel sighed and opened it, revealing Professor Flitwick.

"Ah, Lord Ravenclaw, Lady Malverne," the tiny professor beamed. "I just wanted to check that your accommodations are to your liking. I must say, you two are quite the talk of the school. It's not every day we have a married couple among the students!"

Daphne laughed. "We're aware, Professor. But we'll manage."

Flitwick nodded. "I have no doubt. Now, if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. Have a good night!"

Once he left, Daphne turned to Ezekiel. "I suppose we should rest. Classes start tomorrow, and it's going to be a long year."

Ezekiel smirked, pulling her into a deeper kiss. "Perhaps, but we still have some time before then."

Daphne's cheeks darkened, but she didn't resist as they fell into their first night back at Hogwarts—together.
