Chapter 12: The Omnipotence of Chakra

Chapter 12: The Omnipotence of Chakra

By the time the sun had completely set, Mizuki finally returned home. His fiancée, Chihiro Tsubaki, had already prepared dinner and was waiting for him.

"Was everything smooth today? I heard that Special Jonin Anko Mitarashi was leading the team."

"Yeah, nothing out of the ordinary. Things went quite smoothly. The original plan was to finish in ten days, but since we've got more people helping now, we might be able to finish ahead of schedule."

"That's good to hear. I also heard that Iruka was part of the team. Did you two get along alright?"

"Yeah, no problems at all. Don't worry."

"That's a relief," Tsubaki smiled. "By the way, I organized some basic sealing technique materials and put them on your desk. Take a look when you have time—it might be helpful for you."

"Thanks, Tsubaki," Mizuki said happily. "Alright, let's eat first."

"Okay."

Just as they were about to sit down, a knock came from the door.

"Who could that be at this hour?"

Mizuki opened the door and found Iruka standing outside.

"Oh, Iruka. What brings you here so late?"

"It's Iruka? Do you want to come in and eat with us?" Tsubaki called out from inside.

"No need, I won't stay long," Iruka said, pulling out a scroll from his pouch. "I came to give you this."

"What is it?"

"A sealing technique scroll—it contains a few simple techniques and tricks."

"You knew I was looking for this?"

"Mizuki, we've known each other for over a decade. I understand you well enough. Otherwise, why would you suddenly be so interested in my Sealing Barrier Formation?"

Well, Iruka was an incurable good guy after all.

"Wait here a second."

Mizuki turned around, grabbed two scrolls, and tossed them to Iruka.

"This contains my insights on genjutsu, some puppetry techniques, and a few special poisons and medicines. Nothing too advanced, but it should be useful to you."

Iruka raised an eyebrow. "Mizuki, what's this for?"

"I don't like owing favors. This way, we're even."

"Hah… well, if you insist. Then I'll gladly accept it. Thanks."

"No need. Just focus on finishing the mission properly."

"Alright then, I won't disturb you any longer. See you tomorrow."

"Wait, Iruka."

Mizuki suddenly changed his mind.

"This time, let's consider it me owing you a favor. If you ever need help in the future, come find me."

Iruka looked at him for a moment before nodding.

"Suit yourself."

"See you tomorrow."

After Iruka left, Mizuki glanced at the sealing scroll in his hands.

"Maybe I should start building some allies. Going solo isn't always the best option, and I don't have the power to act alone. Expanding my network could be a necessary safety net—who knows when it might come in handy?"

A Few Days Later

For the next several days, Mizuki worked diligently, leaving early in the morning and returning late at night to complete the Forest of Death clearing mission.

By the eighth day, the three Genin assisting them were dismissed, as their involvement in setting up the Chūnin Exam venue was deemed inappropriate. The final two days were spent on exam-related preparations, which were restricted to Chūnin-level ninjas and above.

Finally, after reporting their completed mission to the Third Hokage, Mizuki was given a few days off.

Now, with free time for the first time in days, he leaned against his window, watching the bustling streets of Konoha.

"This peaceful and prosperous scene… it won't last much longer."

Shifting his gaze, he looked at a few inconspicuous plants growing in a small flowerpot on the windowsill.

These were ordinary plants Mizuki had brought back from the Forest of Death. But after days of chakra infusion, strange mutations had begun appearing.

A creeping vine (similar to kudzu) had developed incredible regenerative abilities—even when cut into pieces, new buds would sprout within two days.

A spiny, insectivorous plant (resembling a large pitcher plant) had grown dramatically in size. It had already begun luring and consuming small animals like mice and sparrows.

Fast-growing bamboo, drought-resistant flowers—all exhibited unnatural levels of vitality.

But the most surprising discovery was inside a large glass tank in the center of the room.

Within the water-filled container, a group of almost transparent creatures floated silently. Their thin, jelly-like bodies were nearly invisible. If not for the faint red glow at their centers, it would be impossible to tell they were alive.

"Even their transparency is evolving…"

These creatures were deadly venomous jellyfish Mizuki had stumbled upon at a traveling merchant's stall.

Fascinated by their high toxicity, he had immediately purchased some and began experimenting.

Using a combination of:

✔ Chakra infusion

✔ Controlled environment

✔ Even feeding them his own blood

Mizuki uncovered an astonishing truth—

These jellyfish shared characteristics with the fabled "immortal" species from his past life: the Turritopsis dohrnii, or "Immortal Jellyfish".

This species was capable of reverting from its adult medusa stage back to its polyp stage, effectively resetting its lifecycle indefinitely.

"Theoretically… this means they can live forever—unless they're killed."

For centuries, scientists and sages alike had sought immortality. Even the brilliant Orochimaru had obsessed over it for years, ultimately creating the Imperfect Reincarnation Technique (Living Corpse Reincarnation).

But true immortality? That was still a fantasy.

Even in a world of chakra, nobody had achieved it.

"But what if I… combined this with chakra?"

Unlike scientific advancements in his past life, chakra had an absurd ability to warp reality.

If Mizuki could refine and adapt this biological ability—

"…It might just be possible to extend human life indefinitely."

With further experiments, he even formed a summoning contract with one of the jellyfish, establishing a chakra link between them.

Though the creature was weak and lacked intelligence, its ability to survive death was undeniable.

If he could harness and integrate this into human physiology…

"Orochimaru would kill to know about this."

He looked at his right arm, feeling the faint heat from the Cursed Seal.

"This world's biological knowledge is primitive—they rely on crude organ transplants, forced genetic fusion, and brute-force chakra augmentation."

"They never even bothered developing advanced genetic editing. All they do is stitch things together until something works."

"But if I work this into a refined methodology…"

Standing up, he activated the small sealing formations embedded around his plants and aquarium, infusing them with fresh chakra.

The runes glowed softly, reinforcing the chakra-rich environment needed for further mutations.

"Not enough. I need more time, more data… but at least, this is a start."

With everything in order, Mizuki headed out for a walk—

"Maybe I'll stumble upon another unexpected treasure like the jellyfish."

---

Meanwhile, at the Hokage's Office…

The Third Hokage was reviewing reports from the Anbu monitoring Mizuki.

"Are you saying there were no suspicious activities?"

"Correct, Lord Hokage. His task in the Forest of Death was thoroughly reviewed, and Anko Mitarashi found nothing unusual."

"And what has he been doing since?"

"He's been resting at home, occasionally wandering around town."

"Any suspicious interactions?"

"None. He's only been in contact with Iruka Umino and his fiancée, Chihiro Tsubaki."

"Hmm…"

The Third flipped through the report—

"Highly venomous jellyfish?"

"He's breeding them at home, possibly to extract poisons."

"…Interesting."

The Third exhaled, setting the report down.

"Cancel the full surveillance—switch to periodic monitoring. Once his vacation is over, assign him to assist with mission distribution."

"Understood."
