Chapter 60: The Truth Behind Myths

Chapter 60: The Truth Behind Myths

The summer heat in the Ninja World wasn't as unbearable as Mizuki remembered from his previous life. Perhaps it was due to the high vegetation coverage; the air remained refreshingly comfortable. As long as one avoided direct exposure to the sun, it wasn't particularly difficult to endure, especially for a ninja's physique.

Under the shade of a giant tree, Mizuki and Sakura sat cross-legged, enjoying their lunch while taking a break. After an entire morning of intense combat training, the midday break had become a valuable time for student-teacher discussions.

"Mizuki-sensei, why is your Chakra Scalpel so much more powerful than mine?"

After days of sparring, Sakura had gradually adapted to the high-intensity battles she had rarely experienced before. While her current level was barely sufficient, pushing any further risked harming her still-developing body.

Yet, despite her excellent chakra control, there was a stark difference between her Chakra Scalpel and Mizuki's in terms of destructive power. Other than their differences in physical endurance, there had to be a deeper reason.

"It's good that you're paying attention to these details," Mizuki said, quite satisfied with Sakura's recent progress. "The main reason is actually quite complex, but generally speaking, it's related to chakra nature transformations."

"Chakra nature transformations? Do you mean the five chakra elements?"

"Yes, but more accurately, chakra is divided into seven types." Mizuki corrected her. "You've seen all five elemental transformations, but haven't you noticed? There are quite a few jutsu that don't fit into any of these categories."

"Now that you mention it… that's true." Sakura thought for a moment before responding. "The techniques used by Ino's team—their family jutsu don't seem to be associated with any elemental chakra nature. What exactly are they?"

"Ah, the Ino-Shika-Chō trio… Their clan jutsu are quite famous, and while they appear vastly different, they can generally be categorized into two types—Yin Release and Yang Release."

"Yin Release and Yang Release?" Sakura was puzzled. She had never heard of these chakra types before.

"Yes. Do you remember the ancient legend of Ninshū, where the Sage of Six Paths divided chakra into Yin and Yang, alongside the Five Elements?"

"The Sage of Six Paths? But isn't that just a myth?" Sakura's eyes widened. "Are you saying that all those ancient legends are true?"

Mizuki chuckled. "Sakura, every story, myth, or legend is passed down by people. Even the most outrageous myths contain some kernel of truth. If you can strip away the illusions and find the hidden reality, you may discover surprising insights."

"The truth? Mizuki-sensei, have you uncovered something?"

"I wouldn't call it a discovery," Mizuki said modestly. "It's not exactly a secret, but it's just not widely known. For example, the existence of Yin Release and Yang Release Chakra—most accomplished ninja treat them as clan secrets, which is why they aren't well-documented."

Sakura was starting to piece things together. "Then… are you saying that the Chakra Scalpel is an application of Yin-Yang Release?"

Mizuki nodded. "Exactly. Most medical ninjutsu fall under Yang Release, while the Nara Clan's shadow techniques and the Yamanaka Clan's mind techniques fall under Yin Release. Similarly, Akimichi Chōji's Multi-Size Jutsu is also an application of Yang Release."

Sakura quickly caught onto the pattern. "So… Yin Release is associated with mental and spiritual energy, while Yang Release is tied to physical energy?"

"You've summarized it quite well," Mizuki praised her. "Yin and Yang are like two sides of the same coin. Since chakra is derived from both physical and spiritual energy, it inherently contains the principles of Yin and Yang. Most people naturally maintain a balance between the two. However, some individuals exhibit a strong affinity for one over the other.

"For example, my Chakra Scalpel is more powerful than yours because, due to certain circumstances, my Yang Release has become much stronger than my Yin Release. This imbalance amplifies the effectiveness of my medical ninjutsu."

Mizuki glanced at his right arm where the Cursed Seal of Heaven was sealed. The unrefined seal from Orochimaru had disrupted the natural balance of his chakra. It was both a blessing and a curse—it granted him greater insight into higher-level abilities, yet it also left him constantly teetering on the edge of physical collapse.

"I see…" Sakura nodded thoughtfully. "Then… could I also alter my Yin-Yang balance like you?"

Mizuki immediately waved his hand. "I strongly advise against it. Maintaining balance in your body is crucial, especially since you're still growing. If you force a shift in Yin or Yang, it could permanently damage you."

If he had the choice, Mizuki himself would have restored his balance instead of increasing his Yang attribute.

Seeing Sakura's disappointed expression, Mizuki continued, "Medical ninjutsu will definitely become an important part of your future strength. But, to be honest, I can only teach you so much. If you want to truly master it, you'll need to study under a proper medical ninja in the future."

"I understand, Mizuki-sensei."

"For now, we'll be shifting our focus to genjutsu, sealing techniques, and barrier techniques, along with some practical combat techniques. First, let me show you this…"

Mizuki raised his hands, and as chakra gathered, a thin, translucent barrier formed in front of his palms.

"This is called the Chakra Shield."

In truth, Mizuki had based this technique on Chiyo's chakra shield, adapting it by using sealing formulas inscribed on his forearms. With his precise chakra control, forming a compressed chakra barrier was relatively easy.

"The strength of this shield depends entirely on chakra control. The better your control, the stronger the defense. Since your chakra nature includes Water and Earth, you're actually better suited for this technique than I am, since my chakra is predominantly Fire."

A defensive technique like this was perfect for Sakura to learn before the Chūnin Exams.

"But today's practical combat lesson is over," Mizuki said. "For now, focus on mastering the sealing arrays I gave you yesterday. Only after that can we move forward. I have other matters to attend to, so I won't be able to accompany you."

Moonlight Hayate was still unconscious in the hospital, teetering between life and death. While Mizuki couldn't do much more, he still felt responsible for checking in on him.
