Chapter 15: The Aftermath

The Sanctum of Balance fell silent, the energies of the ritual dissipating into the air. Skully stood at the center of the platform, his bones glowing faintly with a soft, golden light. The Mark of the Ancient One was gone, replaced by a new rune—a symbol of balance and harmony.

"Skully?" I called, stepping closer. "Are you okay?"

He turned to me, his eye sockets glowing with a warm, familiar light. *"I'm… I'm fine, Master. Better than fine, actually. I feel… different. Lighter."*

I let out a sigh of relief, my knees buckling as the tension left my body. "It worked. The ritual actually worked."

Skully grinned, his jawbone clacking. *"Of course it worked. Did you ever doubt me?"*

I laughed, the sound echoing through the clearing. "Maybe a little. But you were amazing, Skully. You fought the Mark and won."

*"We won,"* Skully corrected, hopping onto my shoulder. *"This was a team effort, Master. I couldn't have done it without you."*

As we left the Sanctum, the forest seemed quieter, the whispers of the trees fading into the background. The wraiths were gone, their presence no longer a threat. It was as if the forest itself recognized the balance we had restored.

But as we made our way back to the academy, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was still off. The ritual had worked, but the Ancient One was a being of immense power. Would it really let go of Skully so easily?
