CHAPTER 23

"Just stay, please. I will forgive you and forget everything. Just stay, for our son's sake. Please."

My mother's voice was raw with desperation, her fingers digging into my father's leg as she knelt before him.

He looked down at her with nothing but disgust.

"I know it’s only money that you want. I will keep sending you money. Just live well."

His voice was calm, cold, as if she was a mere nuisance rather than the woman he had once sworn to love. Then, without hesitation, he yanked his foot away from her grip, making her stumble onto the hard wooden floor.

I stood there, frozen, as he gave me a fleeting glance—empty, indifferent—before walking out the door.

He never looked back.

The sound of my mother’s sobs filled the room, each wail slicing through me like a blade. But what good did her tears do? They changed nothing.
