CHAPTER 42

The sound of my alarm blaring next to me jolted me awake. I groaned, burying my face into the pillow as I tried to block out the annoying noise. A strong arm tightened around my waist, pulling me against a warm, solid body.

My body stiffened as memories of last night came rushing back. Matteo. His threats. His control. His presence.

I inhaled deeply before exhaling sharply, trying to calm myself. Today was a new day, and I had classes to attend. I needed to focus on that, not on the possessive mafia leader sleeping beside me.

Carefully, I pried his arm off and slid out of bed. He stirred slightly but didn’t wake up. I grabbed some clothes and hurried into the bathroom, locking the door behind me.

The hot water helped wash away some of my tension, but the moment I stepped out, I was right back where I started—trapped.
