CHAPTER 89

SOPHIA'S POV

The sun was warm on my skin, but it did little to ease the storm brewing in my chest. I needed this walk—some space, some air, something that felt remotely normal. My dad had gone to the office earlier, and Mom had left for her checkup. That left me alone in the house, restless and trapped in my own thoughts. So I slipped out, hoping a walk would bring clarity or peace. Or maybe just silence.

I had just rounded the corner past the small park down the street when I heard the tires screech. A sleek black car pulled up in front of me, the engine purring low and aggressive. I froze, heart kicking up into my throat. For a second, paranoia crept in. Had Aleksandr finally found me?

Then the door opened, and Leon stepped out.

Leon.
