CHAPTER 90

The message came through a few minutes after I hit send.

Aleksandr: "Come to the warehouse on 42nd and Merrow Street. I have a surprise for you."

My stomach flipped. Every instinct in my body told me to run the opposite direction, but I couldn’t afford to back out now. This wasn’t about me anymore. This was about Matteo. About saving him before it was too late.

Leon squeezed my hand gently before I stepped out of the car. “We’ll be in position. Just breathe, and stick to the plan. Stall him. Make him believe you want him.”

I nodded, my fingers tightening around the knife hidden inside the band of my jeans, and the needle tucked into the seam of my coat. Just in case.

Two guards were already waiting for me at the gates of the warehouse. They looked like statues, arms folded, faces expressionless, but as soon as they spotted me, one of them stepped forward.

“Ms. Sophia. This way,” he said, not unkindly.
