Chapter 2: The Ex-Husband’s New Life

The next morning, Emma woke up feeling refreshed. She had managed to push the thoughts of Alex's wedding to the back of her mind, focusing instead on her upcoming meeting with the investor. As she got ready for the day, she couldn't help but think about how far she had come. From a young entrepreneur to a successful businesswoman, her journey had been filled with challenges, but she had always come out stronger.

At the office, Emma was greeted by Mark, who handed her a cup of coffee. "Good morning, Emma. You have a busy day ahead," he said, smiling.

Emma took a sip of her coffee, feeling the caffeine kick in. "Thanks, Mark. I'm ready for it."

The morning flew by in a blur of meetings and phone calls. Emma was in her element, discussing business strategies and negotiating deals. She was a natural at it, and her confidence grew with each successful meeting.

As she prepared for her lunch break, Emma's mind wandered back to Alex. She wondered who he was marrying and what his life was like now. The thought was fleeting, but it left her with a pang of curiosity.

At lunch, Emma met Rachel at a quaint little café downtown. Rachel was already seated at a table, sipping on a latte.

"Hey, girl! You look great," Rachel said, smiling as Emma sat down.

"Thanks, Rach. You're looking fabulous yourself," Emma replied, ordering a sandwich.

As they ate, Rachel asked about Emma's day. Emma filled her in on the meetings and her upcoming investor meeting.

"I'm so proud of you, Emma. You're killing it," Rachel said, her eyes shining with admiration.

Emma smiled, feeling grateful for her friend's support. "Thanks, Rach. I couldn't do it without you."

After lunch, Emma returned to her office, feeling energized. She spent the afternoon reviewing documents and preparing for her meeting with the investor. It was going to be a crucial meeting, one that could secure funding for her company's next big project.

As the day drew to a close, Emma felt a sense of satisfaction. She had accomplished a lot, and she was proud of herself. She packed up her things and headed home, looking forward to a quiet evening.

The drive home was uneventful, giving Emma time to reflect on her day. She thought about the meeting with Mr. Thompson and the news about Alex's wedding. It was strange, but she felt a sense of detachment from it all. She had moved on, and she was happy with her life as it was.

When she arrived home, Emma was greeted by Luna, who was lounging on the couch. Emma smiled, feeling a warmth in her heart. Luna was her constant companion, always there to greet her with a purr.

Emma spent the evening reading a book and watching TV. It was a peaceful night, one that she needed after a busy day. As she drifted off to sleep, she felt content, knowing that she was exactly where she was meant to be.

Little did she know, her life was about to take a dramatic turn, one that would challenge everything she thought she knew about herself and her past.

The next morning, Emma woke up to a text from an unknown number.

"Emma, it's Alex. I hope you're doing well. I wanted to talk to you about the wedding invitation. I know it might seem strange, but I really want you to be there. It would mean a lot to me."

Emma's heart skipped a beat as she read the message. Why was Alex reaching out now, after all this time? And why did he want her at his wedding so badly? She felt a mix of emotions—curiosity, anger, and a hint of sadness.

She decided not to respond immediately, needing time to process her feelings. Instead, she went about her day as usual, trying to focus on her work.

But the message lingered in her mind, a constant reminder that her past was not as buried as she thought.
