Chapter 3: The Wedding Invitation

The message from Alex lingered in Emma's mind, refusing to be ignored. She had thought she was over him, that she had moved on with her life. But the invitation to his wedding brought up feelings she hadn't expected. It wasn't just the fact that he was getting married again; it was the fact that he wanted her there.

As she went about her day, Emma couldn't help but wonder why Alex was reaching out now. They hadn't spoken in months, and their parting hadn't been amicable. She had assumed he was happy with his decision to leave her, to pursue a life without her. But now, it seemed he wanted her to be a part of this new chapter in his life.

Emma decided to talk to Rachel about it. She needed her friend's perspective, her advice on how to handle this unexpected turn of events.

"Rach, I need to talk to you about something," Emma said, calling her friend as soon as she had a break.

"What's up?" Rachel asked, her voice concerned.

"It's Alex. He invited me to his wedding," Emma revealed, trying to keep her emotions in check.

There was a pause on the other end of the line. "That's… interesting," Rachel said finally. "Why do you think he wants you there?"

"I have no idea," Emma admitted. "But it's got me thinking. Maybe I should go."

Rachel's response was immediate. "No way, Emma. You can't go to his wedding. It's not healthy for you."

Emma sighed, knowing Rachel was right. But a part of her was curious. What was Alex's life like now? Was he happy? And who was this woman he was marrying?

"I know you're right," Emma said. "But I just can't help but wonder."

Rachel's voice softened. "I understand. But you need to think about yourself here. You've worked so hard to move on. Don't let him pull you back in."

Emma nodded, even though Rachel couldn't see her. "You're right. I won't go."

But as she hung up the phone, Emma couldn't shake off the feeling that she was missing something. She decided to do some digging, to find out more about Alex's new life.

She started by looking up his social media profiles. It was easy to find him; he was still active on all the platforms they had shared during their marriage. As she scrolled through his posts, Emma saw pictures of him with a woman she didn't recognize. She was beautiful, with long blonde hair and a bright smile.

Emma felt a pang of jealousy, which surprised her. She thought she was over Alex, but seeing him with someone else brought up old feelings. She quickly closed the tab, not wanting to dwell on it.

The rest of the day was a blur of meetings and work. Emma tried to focus on her tasks, but her mind kept wandering back to Alex and his wedding. She wondered who this woman was and what she was like.

As the day drew to a close, Emma decided to take a walk outside. The fresh air and sunshine did her good, clearing her head and refreshing her spirit. She walked through the park, enjoying the scenery and the sound of children laughing.

As she walked, Emma's thoughts drifted back to her past. She remembered the days when she and Alex were happy, when their love seemed invincible. But life had other plans, and they had drifted apart.

Emma realized that she had been given a second chance, a chance to rebuild her life and find happiness on her own terms. She was determined to make the most of it, to focus on her business and her friendships.

When she returned home, Emma was greeted by Luna, who was lounging on the couch. Emma smiled, feeling a warmth in her heart. Luna was her constant companion, always there to greet her with a purr.

Emma spent the evening reading a book and watching TV. It was a peaceful night, one that she needed after a busy day. As she drifted off to sleep, she felt content, knowing that she was exactly where she was meant to be.

But as she fell asleep, Emma couldn't shake off the feeling that her life was about to change in ways she couldn't imagine. Little did she know, the news about Alex's wedding was just the beginning of a journey that would challenge everything she thought she knew about herself and her past.

The next morning, Emma woke up feeling refreshed. She had made a decision; she was going to focus on her life and her business. She was going to move forward, leaving the past behind.

As she got ready for the day, Emma felt a sense of determination. She was ready to face whatever challenges came her way, knowing that she was strong enough to handle them.

But as she was about to leave for work, Emma received another message from Alex.

"Emma, please reconsider coming to the wedding. It would mean a lot to me," he wrote.

Emma felt a surge of emotions. Why was Alex so insistent? What did he want from her? She decided not to respond, choosing instead to ignore the message and focus on her day.

As she drove to work, Emma couldn't help but wonder what the future held. She knew that she had the strength to face whatever came her way, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that her life was about to take a dramatic turn.
