Kang Min-chul immediately called Kwon Sera to his office. She was a skilled agent working for Black Shield Security (BSS), one of the Lee family's company subsidiaries. She had been working for the company ever since she turned 14.
A blonde-haired beauty walked into the office, dressed in black, tight-fitting jeans and a white jacket. Wearing a pair of white heels, she strode into his office in a seductive manner. Many male agents couldn't help but stare at her, their mouths wide open. Seeing such a beauty wasn't something they could ever get used to.
Kang Min-chul shook his head when he saw her. "What do you think you're wearing? Where is your suit?"
"I hate those clothes—I prefer wearing something comfortable," she replied, winking at him.
"Anyway," he sighed. "I need you to find someone for me."
"Male or female?" she asked.
"Male," Min-chul replied.
"Age?"
"Twenty-seven," Kang Min-chul sighed again. "He's of great importance to Tae-gun."
"The CEO wants me to find him?" Sera asked.
"Yes. His name is Seo Jihoon," said Kang Min-chul as he handed her a file.
"He lives with Madam Jeong?" Sera glanced at Min-chul as she flipped through the documents.
"Yes," Min-chul leaned forward. "Have you met him before?"
She smiled ignoring Min-chul's question. "In that case, I'm going to find him right now."
"It's fine," Min-chul glanced at his watch. "It's almost lunch break. You can go after you've eaten."
"Mr. Kang, he is really cute," Sera said, licking her lips as she stared at the ceiling in thought.
"You mean Jihoon? I haven't seen him in a long time, so I'm not sure. But I do remember the late CEO mentioning something about uniting the Lee and Seo families," Kang Min-chul said, placing a hand on his chin as he smirked, teasing Sera a little.
Kwon Sera smirked. "Come on, we both know there's no way Miss Lee is going to like a fool like him."
"He's a fool?"
"A big fool," Kwon Sera replied, rising to her feet. She dropped the files on the table and walked out.
"Be safe!" Min-chul shouted, and she waved back at him.
She walked out of the company and headed to the park where her bike was parked. She put on her helmet and sped off toward Madam Jeong's house. Upon arriving, she was shocked to see police officers at the scene.
"What happened here?" she approached one of the officers.
"Miss Sera!" The officer beamed in delight. "It's really a pleasure to meet you in person!"
"Thanks, but what happened here?" she asked again.
"Well, we got a call a few minutes ago that someone had just murdered Miss Jeong. A lot of officers here frequently visited her restaurant, so when we heard she was the victim, we rushed here! We found her dead in Jihoon's room!" the officer explained.
"Jihoon? Seo Jihoon? As in the painter?" she frowned.
"Yes," the officer affirmed. "But they were close—I don't think he'd do something like this to Miss Jeong. I was very close to her, and Jihoon too. Their relationship wasn't just that of a landlord and tenant, but like mother and son."
"May I see the crime scene?" Kwon Sera requested.
"Sure."
Kwon Sera entered the building and headed to Jihoon's room. The place was completely disorganized—paint was spilled across the floor, his clothes were scattered everywhere, and even the window was left open. It was almost as if someone had rummaged through the room, searching for something.
"Did any of the neighbors see Seo Jihoon return?" Kwon Sera asked.
"One neighbor says Jihoon always returns home at 5:30 p.m., and Miss Jeong was killed a few minutes after that. The fact that her body was found in his room makes him a prime suspect," the officer answered.
"But no one saw him come home?"
"A tenant did say he saw someone in a black hoodie around this vicinity. Said the unknown man looked suspicious," the officer added.
Sera checked her watch—it was now 8 p.m. Just then, the officer's phone rang.
"Detective Baek, what's up?"
"We just caught Seo Jihoon!" she exclaimed from the other side of the phone, loud enough for Sera to hear.
Without hesitation, Kwon Sera leaped out of the open window and ran to her bike. She started the engine and sped toward the station as fast as she could. She also didn't believe Jihoon could have murdered Madam Jeong. She had only met him once, but that meeting was enough for her to know what kind of person he was.
She stopped her bike some distances away from the station when she saw a black Lamborghini parked in front of it. A man wearing a black hoodie came out of the car then the car drove away.
Sera remained patient, watching as the man put on a mask before entering the station. A few minutes later, he emerged with someone she assumed to be Seo Jihoon. Without hesitation, he threw the unconscious Jihoon into the back of the van and drove off.
Sera started her bike and followed closely, intrigued by the man's destination. He eventually stopped at an abandoned warehouse in a secluded part of the city. Pulling Jihoon from the van, he dragged him inside.
Kwon Sera frowned at the sight of the warehouse, instantly recognizing its ownership. It belonged to the Yoon family, one of the most powerful families in Seoul. They controlled the largest gang in Korea and were heavily backed by the government.
She tied her hair into a ponytail and slipped inside after the hooded man. Meanwhile, Ryu hurled Jihoon across the room with a smirk, clearly relishing his suffering.
"I tried to kill you years ago and failed. How you survived the accident is still a mystery to me," Ryu said as he pulled down his hood and removed his mask, revealing a large scar that stretched from his forehead to his jaw.
Jihoon slowly rose to his feet, anger welling inside him. "You killed my parents?"
"I did," Ryu chuckled darkly. "I rammed a trailer into their car and watched it plunge off the bridge. Then I waited there for an hour to confirm you were all dead… How did you survive?"
"Why did you kill Miss Jeong?" Jihoon demanded, his fists clenching as his blood boiled.
Ryu laughed. "I had to. She caught me snooping around your room and threatened to call the police."
"She was an old lady!" Jihoon roared. "You don't just kill an old lady!"
Ryu dismissed his outrage with a wave of his hand. "Where is the drive?"
"What drive?" Jihoon asked, feigning ignorance.
"So, you don't know either," Ryu exhaled, seemingly disappointed. "In that case, there's no reason to keep you alive!"
"The drive—yes!" Jihoon suddenly exclaimed. "I remember now!"
"Where is it?" Ryu asked, gripping a dagger tightly.
"It's not in my room, stupid!" Jihoon scoffed. "Why would I keep something so important there?"
"Do you even know what's on the drive?" Ryu questioned, still brandishing the dagger.
"No, I never watched it," Jihoon admitted. "But I can take you to it."
Ryu scrutinized him, searching for any sign of deception. Jihoon's unwavering confidence convinced him that he truly knew the drive's location—though, in reality, Jihoon knew nothing.
At that moment, Ryu's phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, he answered immediately. "Boss."
"Have you killed him?" the voice asked.
"He claims to know where the drive is," Ryu replied. "I was considering torturing him until he talks—"
"No need for that. Does he know the contents of the drive?"
"I don't think he does," Ryu responded.
"Good. Tell him to take you to the drive's location," the voice ordered.
Jihoon, who had been attentively listening to their exchange, suddenly spoke. "You killed my parents, so I won't tell you where the drive is."
"You—!" Ryu kicked him away in frustration.
"Ryu, put the call on speaker," the voice commanded, and Ryu complied.
"It's good to finally meet you, Seo Jihoon," the voice said in a friendly tone.
"Same here," Jihoon replied.
"I'm sorry for killing your parents, and I would love to make it up to you," the voice turned somber. "How should I compensate you for the drive and their deaths? 10 million? Hm? 20? 50?"
"50 million should be enough," Jihoon answered.
Without hesitation, Jihoon provided his account details, and the man transferred the money instantly. Jihoon's eyes widened in shock—his account had never held this much money before. But the surprise quickly faded as images of his parents flashed through his mind.
Without thinking twice, he lunged at Ryu, only to be kicked away.
"What's wrong with you?" Ryu demanded.
"You really think my parents' lives are worth ₩50 million?" Jihoon scowled.
Ryu's expression shifted from shock to realization. "You… You have no idea where the drive is, do you?!"
Jihoon rose to his feet. "Even if I did know, I wouldn't remember. I lost most of my memories from back then."
"I'll kill you! I'll kill you!" Ryu roared, launching himself at Jihoon with the dagger.
"Mom, Dad… I'm coming, just wait…" Jihoon whispered, spreading his arms apart and shutting his eyes, ready to embrace death.
But at that very moment, Sera dashed into the room like lightning, delivering a powerful kick to Ryu. He crashed into the wall with such force that it shattered on impact, knocking him unconscious instantly.
Jihoon's tear-filled eyes locked onto Sera, admiration shining through them. His heart pounded faster and faster, watching his guardian angel stand before him. With her mask still on, she turned to face him—her cat-like eyes were the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
"My dark angel," he murmured, tears streaming down his cheeks.
