CHAPTER 32

The shrill sound of the alarm jolted me from a deep, dreamless sleep. I groaned, rolling over to silence the intrusive noise. As my fingers fumbled to turn it off, I realized Heinrich's side of the bed was empty but still warm—a sign he'd only just left. The faint aroma of his cologne lingered in the air, offering a comforting reminder of his presence.

Dragging myself out of bed, I padded into the bathroom. The cool tiles against my feet sent a shiver up my spine, waking me further. I turned on the shower, letting the warm water cascade over me, washing away the remnants of sleep. As I lathered the soap, I couldn't help but reflect on the day ahead. Today marked my return to college, but this time as Mrs. Volkov. The thought was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking.
