As I stood in front of the mirror, I couldn't help but think about the irony of my situation. Here I was, a young woman with a complicated love life, yet I had a knack for fixing others' relationship problems. I had dubbed this phenomenon "Cupid's Contradiction," and while others might find it amusing, I couldn't help but feel a pang of frustration.
My name is Luna, and I'm a Taurus, born and raised. As the first child of my parents, I've always felt a sense of responsibility, being the second-in-command after my dad. My brother, Scott, is not only my sibling but also my best friend and partner-in-crime. Physically, I'm a bit on the petite side, with a fair complexion and an oval-shaped face. My glasses often lead people to assume I'm a bookworm, which isn't entirely inaccurate.
As an introvert, I've always been a bit hesitant to put myself out there, but with my admission to one of the top schools in town, I knew I had to step up my game. I couldn't afford to get lost in the crowd, not when I had so much to prove. And yet, as I stood there, staring at my reflection, I couldn't shake off the feeling of uncertainty.
Just then, Scott burst into the room, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Hey, Luna, what's up? Why is the room messed up?" I shot him a look, trying to convey the gravity of the situation. "I'm getting ready for my first day as an undergraduate, duh!" Scott chuckled, a low, rumbling sound. "Yeah, duh, indeed. I'm surprised you forgot, though."
I glared at him, trying to hide the embarrassment. "Shut up, Scott. Just help me pack, okay?" Scott grinned, sauntering over to my bed. "Yes, ma'am, as you wish. But don't think this means I'm going to miss you or anything." I rolled my eyes, laughing despite myself.
As we packed, Scott couldn't help but tease me about my forgetfulness. "I mean, come on, Luna, how could you forget your first day of college?" I shot him a look, trying to defend myself. "Hey, I was busy with my skit, okay? And besides, it's not like I forgot entirely. I just... misplaced the date, that's all."
Scott chuckled, shaking his head. "You're something else, Luna. But hey, I'm going to miss you, despite all your craziness." I smiled, feeling a pang of affection for my brother. "I'll miss you too, Scott. But don't worry, I'll be back before you know it."
The next morning, I woke up feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. I rushed through my morning routine, trying to get everything just right. As I dressed, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and couldn't help but feel a twinge of insecurity. I was a bit on the short side, and my glasses made me feel like a bookworm.
But as I made my way to the living room, I was greeted by a surprise. Scott and my mom had decorated the room with balloons and streamers, and there was a big banner that read, "Bye, Luna! We'll miss you!" I felt a lump form in my throat as Scott came over and gave me a big hug.
"My sister's all grown up," he whispered, his voice choked with emotion. I hugged him back, trying to hold back tears. "I'll miss you, Scott. But I'll be back soon, okay?" My mom came over and joined in the hug, and for a moment, we just stood there, holding each other tight.
As I pulled away, my mom handed me a flask filled with treats. "For the road, sweetie," she said, smiling. I took the flask, feeling a sense of gratitude towards my family. "Thanks, Mom. I'll make sure to call you guys every day, okay?" Scott nodded, trying to look serious. "Yeah, and don't forget to study hard, Luna. We're counting on you."
I smiled, feeling a sense of determination wash over me. "I won't let you guys down," I promised. With one last look at my family, I turned and walked out the door, ready to start this new chapter of my life.
As I got into the cab, I felt a sense of excitement mixed with nerves. The driver, a gruff-looking man with a thick beard, greeted me with a nod. "Where to, miss?" I gave him the address of my school, and he nodded, putting the car in gear.
As we drove, I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder. The campus was beautiful
I caught glimpses of sprawling green lawns and towering buildings as we drove by. But as we pulled up to the entrance, I felt a pang of embarrassment. The driver, it seemed, had taken a wrong turn and ended up driving into the campus instead of the parking lot.
I felt my face heat up with embarrassment as the driver yelled out the window, "Sorry, miss! I'll just drop you off here!" I quickly grabbed my bags and scrambled out of the cab, trying to play it cool despite my mortification. "Thanks," I muttered, watching as the driver sped off with a wave.
I took a deep breath, trying to shake off the embarrassment. I was here now, and it was time to start my new life. With a sense of determination, I slung my bags over my shoulder and set off towards my new adventure.
