The night air was crisp, carrying the scent of pine and damp earth as the Land of Iron lay cloaked under a blanket of mist. The torches lining the village streets flickered weakly against the darkness, their glow barely piercing the thick fog rolling down from the mountains. Deep within the training grounds, a lone figure stood unmoving, his katana glinting under the pale moonlight. His breath was steady, his grip firm. Shin Noragetsu was prepared.
He had spent years perfecting his swordsmanship, training under the cold, ruthless discipline of the samurai. Yet, despite his mastery, something within him always felt out of place. He had no memories of his parents, no past to hold onto, only the teachings of the sword and the whispers of an unknown power coursing through his veins. Tonight, he would seek answers.
A gust of wind howled through the trees as a group of armored samurai stepped forward, their expressions unreadable beneath their metal masks. "Noragetsu," one of them called, voice sharp as steel. "The time has come. Your final trial awaits."
Shin nodded, stepping onto the stone platform at the center of the field. His opponent stood across from him—a veteran warrior with decades of experience, his gaze piercing through the mist. The duel was not merely a test of skill; it was a passage into something greater. The clang of steel rang through the night as their swords met in a furious exchange, each strike calculated, each movement a dance of death.
But as Shin parried a powerful strike, a strange sensation gripped him. A shadow loomed behind his opponent, something unseen by the others. It was as if reality itself was fraying at the edges. His vision blurred for a split second, and in that moment of hesitation, a sharp pain shot through his shoulder as his opponent's blade found its mark.
The world seemed to ripple. The ground beneath them cracked, and a pulse of dark energy erupted from Shin's body, sending his opponent flying. Gasps filled the air as the samurai stepped back, gripping their weapons in shock. Shin staggered, his hand trembling as he gazed at the faint tendrils of black energy coiling around his fingers.
"What... was that?" he whispered.
A deep voice echoed through the silence. "The power you possess is not meant for this world."
Shin turned sharply, his eyes widening as a hooded figure emerged from the shadows. The stranger's presence was suffocating, his aura unlike anything Shin had ever felt. The air around him twisted, as if the space itself was bending to his will.
"Who are you?" Shin demanded, tightening his grip on his sword.
The figure stepped closer, his eyes gleaming beneath the hood. "A messenger. Your destiny does not lie within the confines of this land, nor within the limits of your swordsmanship. You are bound to something far greater. The Void calls to you."
The words sent a chill down Shin's spine. The Void. The name clawed at the edges of his mind, stirring memories he didn't know he had. He took a step back, his breathing ragged.
"You felt it just now, didn't you?" The stranger's voice was almost amused. "That was but a fragment of what lies within you. And soon, others will come for it."
The torches around them flickered violently, casting long shadows across the courtyard. Shin's heartbeat pounded in his ears. He had spent his life training to be a warrior, but this... this was something else entirely. The samurai around him remained frozen, their fear palpable.
"What do you want from me?" Shin growled.
The stranger extended a gloved hand. "To show you the truth. The Akatsuki have returned. The Ōtsutsuki watch from the stars. And a war unlike any before is about to begin. You stand at the center of it all, Shin Noragetsu. Whether you embrace it or not, the Void will claim you."
Before Shin could react, the figure vanished into the mist, leaving only the chilling echo of his final words.
The night stretched on, silent and heavy. Shin clenched his fists, staring at the faint traces of black energy still lingering around his fingers. The world he knew had just shattered before him. And deep down, he knew—this was only the beginning.
