Chapter 190: Fire at Will

 (Skylar's POV)

The tension in the Situation Room was suffocating.

I stood frozen, watching Chris as he issued commands with the authority of a man who had already accepted the consequences of his actions. But then—he said something that made my blood turn to ice.

"Fire at will."

The room went silent.

For a split second, I thought I misheard him. But when I looked around, the stunned expressions on the generals' faces told me otherwise.

I stepped forward, my voice barely above a whisper. "Chris… what did you just say?"

He didn't even look at me. His gaze was locked on the digital map displaying U.S. military assets surrounding Nigeria's borders.

"I said fire at will," he repeated, his tone firm. "I want precision strikes on all key military targets. We will not wait for their next move."

A cold chill ran down my spine.

"This wasn't the plan." My voice shook, my fists clenched at my sides. "You said you'd give them 24 hours. You promised!"

Chris finally turned to me, his expression unreadable. "They lost their 24 hours the moment they mobilized their forces against us."

I felt my chest tighten. "Chris, no. You're about to start a war that won't just stay in Nigeria. This will spread."

He didn't waver. "Then let it."

I slammed my hand on the table. "Damn it, Chris! Do you even hear yourself?!"

The room was deadly silent.

Ethan hesitated. "Mr. President… are you sure?"

Chris didn't blink. "Execute the order."

I took a shaky breath as one of the generals relayed the command. Within seconds, the screen flickered, showing live footage from surveillance drones.

Then, the first explosions lit up the map.

Airstrikes. Bombardments. The war had begun.

My hands trembled as I whispered, "Chris… what have you done?"

He looked at me, his expression dark, unrelenting. "I did what had to be done."

And just like that, the world was no longer the same.
