Chapter 191: The Line Crossed

 (Skylar's POV)

The Situation Room was no longer chaotic. It was silent. Horribly, terrifyingly silent.

Because everyone in the room had just heard the President of the United States give the unthinkable order.

"Launch the warheads."

My heart stopped.

"No."

The word left my lips before I could think. It came out broken, desperate. I turned sharply toward Chris, eyes wide with disbelief. "Chris, you can't—"

His gaze was locked on the screen, his expression unreadable. "I already did."

A deafening alarm blared through the room. RED ALERT. NUCLEAR STRIKE INITIATED.

I watched in horror as the large digital map shifted—missile trajectories now plotted in bright red. Warheads were being deployed from U.S. bases. Tactical nuclear strikes.

"Oh my God," someone whispered behind me.

I surged forward, slamming both hands on the table. "Chris, you're making a mistake! Pull them back!"

He finally turned to look at me. His voice was disturbingly calm. "This is the only way to ensure victory."

My breath hitched. "Victory?! Chris, you're about to kill millions of people! You're about to become a war criminal!"

He didn't even flinch. "They attacked us first. Now, they'll learn what happens when you strike the United States."

I could barely breathe. "Chris, you're not just destroying Nigeria. You're setting the entire world on fire!"

Ethan stepped forward hesitantly. "Mr. President… the fallout from this—"

"Will be a warning to every nation that dares to challenge us," Chris cut him off. "The United States will no longer be disrespected. We control the world now."

I shook my head, stepping back. "This isn't about justice anymore. This is about power."

Chris exhaled sharply. "Skylar, leave the room. You don't need to see this."

I felt my hands shake. The man I once knew—the man I once loved—was gone.

And in his place stood the most dangerous leader the world had ever seen.

The countdown continued on the screen.

10 seconds until launch.

9… 8… 7…

I turned to Ethan, desperation in my voice. "Shut it down! Override the system!"

Ethan's face was pale, but he didn't move.

6… 5… 4…

I turned back to Chris, pleading. "Please. If there's even a part of you that still listens to reason—call it off!"

He just stared at me.

3… 2…

Then, with an expression as cold as death itself, he whispered—

"Too late."

1.

The missiles launched.

And the world would never be the same again.
