Chapter 256: The King’s Move

Chris leaned back against the hospital bed, his mind sharp despite the lingering pain. Skylar was still standing there, silent but unreadable.

She hadn't answered his question. That told him everything.

Before he could push further, the door opened. Ethan.

One look at his right-hand man, and Chris knew something had shifted.

Ethan closed the door behind him, stepping forward. "We found him."

Chris's expression didn't change, but the air in the room seemed to still.

"Who?"

Ethan's jaw tightened. "General Marshall."

For the first time since waking up, true anger flickered in Chris's gaze.

"One of my own generals." His voice was quiet, but there was nothing soft about it.

Ethan nodded once. "Inside job. He coordinated the hit."

Chris inhaled deeply, controlling the rage simmering beneath the surface. Marshall was a fool. And now? He was a dead man walking.

His fingers tapped against the armrest of the hospital chair. "Where is he now?"

"My team's handling it. No loose ends."

Chris nodded slowly. "Good."

Skylar watched them, her expression unreadable. "And what then?"

Chris looked at her, his lips curling into something that wasn't quite a smile.

"Then, I remind the rest of them what happens when you betray me."
