Age of the Crucible

#2 CHAPTER 2: AGE OF THE CRUCIBLE

Before any beings roamed the world, before humans even took shape, there was the Primordial Crucible, where all life blended together, and there was no firm distinction between man, animal, and beast. The Crucible comes before the Erdtree as well, despite the latter being considered an ancient pillar of life, providing the foundation of immortality, and the cycle of life and death. As the Erdtree rose to prominence, and society grew to be more advanced, the bestial nature of the Primordial Crucible began to characterized as barbaric or even unholy. Although Crucible Knights leverage Aspects of the Crucible to defend the Erdtree, and fight for Godfrey, the chaos of the Primordial Crucible is contrary to how life ought to be in the eyes of the Lands Between's power that be.

Though a combination of religious and political strength, the members of the Golden Order destroyed the legacy of the Crucible, painting it as sacrilegious. This resulted in certain beings, like the Omens, being treated as cursed, despite their horned appeared to have a direct connection to the melding of species in the Primordial Crucible, something that was once considered to be a sign of divinity.

However, what is clear is that there is a fundamental theological divide between those who follow The Greater Will, and the reality of the Primordial Crucible. But this divide is primarily a social construct, as all life was born from the Primodrial Crucible, and so, connects all living beings.
