Chapter 125: Care

"The opponent was a Tangela, right?" Yukina mumbled to herself as she carefully cleaned Blaziken's leg.

"The Tangela and Vileplume from the Rainbow Gym are pretty iconic. The vines on that Tangela are often cultivated to grow small, sharp thorns that differ from regular Pokémon. That's due to the unique structure of their bodies."

As she spoke, a few black thorns appeared in Yukina's hand. Blaziken twitched slightly, baring its teeth a little it stung.

"Blaziken's flames are really powerful, huh? After burning off the vines, only a few were left. That's amazing,"Yukina said with a bright smile.

She patted Blaziken's shoulder, motioning for it to turn around.

After checking its feathers, she nodded. "Hmm, this child must have just evolved not too long ago. It's almost time for the first molt."

Silas, who was sitting to the side sipping tea, wasn't sure if Yukina was talking to him or Blaziken, so he simply responded with a few noncommittal "mm-hm" sounds.

Blaziken's white head feathers only molt once a year, growing even more vibrant afterward. It's one of the signs of its growth.

Yukina lifted Blaziken's bandaged sharp claw and began carefully tending to it with her tools.

"The claws need to be about 10% longer than those of a wild Blaziken. The third claw on the right hand should be 15% longer, and the first claw on the left hand should be 5% shorter."

Silas finally spoke up.

This was exactly why he was sitting here.

When it comes to Pokémon, many battle habits and conditioning practices are something only the trainer and their Pokémon truly understand.

If care routines are off, it could impact battle performance. That's why communication between trainers and breeders is essential.

Yukina nodded slightly and expertly used her measuring and grinding tools to care for Blaziken's claws.

Blaziken squinted in comfort and glanced at its trainer. Why didn't it feel this good when the boss did it?

Well, that's because Yukina was a professional, whereas Silas, if you boiled it down, was still pretty much self-taught, piecing together knowledge bit by bit.

And in this kind of meticulous work, men generally didn't have the edge women did when it came to attention to detail.

Silas, of course, noticed the look in Blaziken's eyes. He instantly knew what it was thinking and responded with a matching squint of his own.

So Blaziken wanted to grow stronger faster, huh? What a good kid. In that case… tonight's training session wasn't getting canceled.

Blaziken's leg twitched instinctively it suddenly felt a bad premonition.

But just then,Yukina finished with the claws and began massaging it.

The soothing sensation made Blaziken instantly forget all its worries.

Silas carefully observed Yukina's techniques, trying to learn on the spot.

This had to be one of the internal massage techniques taught after passing the Breeder Certification Exam, specific to the League. It was clearly more effective than any of the basic methods he currently knew.

The system was quite complex if Silas hadn't been a bit of a cheat himself, he probably wouldn't have been able to memorize it.

Even now, it made his head spin a little.

"Phew~"Yukina let out a long breath and wiped away the thin sheen of sweat on her forehead.

"You've really raised this child well," she repeated what she had said at the beginning but this time, much more earnestly.

Among professional breeders, there are actually several sub-specializations. Yukina believed that true beauty was the power hidden behind a Pokémon's cuteness.

During the care session, she had found Blaziken to be a perfect match for her philosophy, which made her repeat the praise without even realizing it.

Silas waved his hands modestly in response.

With Blaziken taken care of, it was Boldore's turn next.

The two of them casually chatted as they worked.

"No wonder the reviews for this place are so good online. Turns out the shop owner is your Teacher" Silas said with admiration. Now that they were more familiar with each other, he'd dropped the more formal tone.

Yukina, being a level-nine breeder and a highly talented one at that was someone he hadn't expected to run into here.

So naturally, he'd asked out of curiosity, and it turned out that the owner of this place was her mentor an old master breeder.

"Yeah, I help out here whenever I have free time,"Yukina replied casually, her hands moving smoothly as soft sand glided over Magcargo's body, easing its weariness.

"Ever thought of opening your own shop?" Silas suddenly remembered that, in his memory of the future,Yukina did end up opening one, so he asked.

Yukina chuckled gently. "Not at the moment. I still think I have a lot to learn. But who knows maybe one day I'll get the urge and just go for it."

Hearing her response, Silas nodded in agreement.

After all, while a level-nine breeder was a pinnacle most people could never reach in their lifetime, for geniuses like her, only through constant learning could one continue to grow.

At a time like this, hastily diverting one's focus elsewhere would be a loss rather than a gain.

"Must be nice," Silas sighed with admiration.

"Hah." Yukina gave a small laugh, then quickly felt a little bad. "Sorry, I didn't mean anything by it. It's just… hearing you say that kind of thing feels kind of wrong."

She had just learned that Silas was only sixteen years old this year. To her, he was still just a younger boy.

But the fact that this younger boy possessed such incredible breeding and training skills made her even more curious about him.

"It's nothing. I just envy your kind of life," Silas shrugged.

"What's there to envy? Honestly, I want to go on a journey too. To learn about more Pokémon. I actually envy your wild field adventures,"Yukina replied.

"Yukina, don't you raise your own Pokémon? That shouldn't be a problem for you, right?" Silas asked curiously.

"I plan to, but later. Before that, I want to make sure everything is well prepared for that little one. Otherwise, I'd be failing it."

Yukina's answer came as a matter of course.

She finished helping Silas's Boldore with its grooming, and without pause, immediately pulled over Pidgeot and began its care.

Silas immediately began listing his requests. For a flying-type bird Pokémon like Pidgeot, feather maintenance was crucial.

"For the wing feathers, the left side needs to grow about a quarter of a knuckle longer. It helps it maintain balance better.

And then for the tail feathers and crest, could you help me trim here and here just a bit?

As for its claws, Pidgeot prefers…"

As Silas went on with his detailed chatter, Yukina stayed completely focused on her work.

For a moment, the room was quiet from casual conversation, filled only with the sound of Silas's instructions and the tools scraping and brushing.

Two hours later.

"Thanks for all your hard work,Yukina." Silas paid the fee and offered his thanks to the side.

"Just saying thanks with words? That's kind of insincere, don't you think?"Yukina teased playfully.

Hearing her joke, Silas looked a bit flustered. After a moment's hesitation, he said, "Then... may I treat you to a meal?"
