Chapter 126: The Arcade

"So this is the place you meant by 'somewhere to walk off the meal'?"

Yukina asked Silas with a strange expression, pointing at the building in front of them.

Earlier, after finishing the care of their Pokémon, Silas prompted more or less by her subtle hints had invited her out for a meal.

Naturally, she gladly accepted.

During the meal, the two had an in-depth yet easygoing discussion about Pokémon breeding and training. They found that their perspectives were surprisingly similar.

One of Silas's core beliefs had always been that a Pokémon shouldn't just be strong it should also look cool.

The three Pokémon he owned were all prime examples of high appearance value.

Especially his Blaziken and Pidgeot.

His Boldore might lag slightly in that department for now, but Silas believed that once it evolved into a Gigalith, it would possess a majestic kind of beauty something akin to a stone dragon.

Yukina shared a similar mindset. She mentioned that the Pokémon she wanted most was a Vulpix. Its evolved form, Ninetales, was not only powerful but also stunningly beautiful and before it evolved, Vulpix could even double as a cuddly pet.

Silas countered that Eevee was also a great choice.

But Yukina felt that Eevee's three known evolutions—Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon weren't particularly good-looking. And without evolving, Eevee wasn't really suited for battles either.

It was only then that Silas suddenly remembered: at this point in time, only those three Eeveelutions had been discovered.

The evolution methods for the Ice-type Glaceon and Grass-type Leafeon hadn't been uncovered yet, let alone the Psychic-type Espeon, Dark-type Umbreon, or the Fairy-type Sylveon that would come in the future.

"Wait, Ice and Grass types... I think those needed special stones, right? Then Psychic and Dark probably needed specific times of day day and night? What was Sylveon's requirement again?"

He felt a bit lost. In his past life, he'd never really memorized the specific evolution conditions all that clearly.

Yukina's voice interrupted his thoughts. "I'm done eating. Kinda full now."

He instinctively responded, "I know a place that should be perfect for walking off the food."

And so, the two of them ended up here.

Yukina spoke with mild exasperation, "You brought me to an arcade? You seriously think this is appropriate?"

Silas looked at her in confusion. "Why not? I've wanted to come here for a while now. And playing games totally helps with digestion, right?"

Yukina was momentarily speechless.

Silas continued on cheerfully, "Plus, you've never been in one before, right? Come on, give it a shot it's super fun."

Without waiting for a response, he took the lead and walked inside.

Completely unaware that behind him, Yukina had clenched her fists then loosened them again.

She stood there, staring hesitantly at the huge arcade in front of her.

Coming from a modest background, ever since she had been taken in as a student by her mentor, she had focused all her energy on studying.

Though she'd been living in Celadon City for several years now, she had never actually stepped inside an arcade.

Or rather she didn't have many friends to go with. The people she interacted with most were her teacher and her Pokémon.

The reason she got along so well with Silas this time was due to their similar backgrounds, shared philosophies on Pokémon training, and possibly even their similar personalities. Not to mention, it didn't hurt that both of them were pretty good-looking.

"Hurry up already." Silas, who had walked ahead, noticed that she wasn't keeping up.

He turned around to see Yukina still standing at the entrance, and called out to her.

"Ah—okay." Yukina instinctively replied and then followed Silas into the arcade.

Dun-dun-dun! Biubiu~ "Watch my Charizard use Flamethrower!" Ding-dong-ding~

Inside the arcade, all kinds of game machines were blaring sounds into the air, creating a somewhat noisy atmosphere.

Silas walked up to the front desk to check out the exchange rate for game coins.

One hundred Pokédollars for one gamerathe not bad.

Even the regular plush toys weren't too expensive. You could trade ten or twenty tokens for one.

In this arcade, however, game coins and tokens weren't the same thing.

Game coins could be purchased with Pokédollars and used to play various games. Each Trainer ID card had a yearly limit of 10,000 game coins.

Tokens, on the other hand, were only obtained through the slot machines. By inserting game coins and gambling on the results, you could earn tokens but only from the slots. Other game machines were strictly for entertainment; even if you cleared them, they wouldn't give out tokens.

As for the conversion rate between the two? Silas figured those who know, know.

One thing was for sure: arcades would never do a losing business.

Just from the plush toys alone, they were making a killing.

"Sir, you're a Trainer, right? Here's a prize list specially prepared for Trainers!"

The attendant smiled warmly and handed him a sheet of paper.

It was filled with all sorts of prize options, including but not limited to held items like Charcoal and Mystic Water.

But the lowest prize tier started at 20,000 tokens. Silas figured you'd have to fill an entire sack just to reach that amount not to mention, it was almost impossible to actually pull it off.

"No Pokémon eggs?" Silas asked casually, pretending not to care.

The attendant laughed politely. "Sir, you must be joking. That's forbidden by League law."

He answered smoothly he was used to this kind of silly question. Trainers came in asking it every day.

"Haha, just kidding. Don't mind me." Silas chuckled and then took out his Trainer ID and 10,000 Pokédollars. "I'll exchange these for 100 game coins, please."

The attendant took the card and money, performed a few operations on the machine, and then handed Silas his Trainer ID along with a small box containing 100 game coins.

Silas thanked him, then turned to look for Yukina.

As it turned out, she had already wandered off after entering the arcade, drawn in by one of the nearby games. She was now standing behind another player, watching intently.

Silas tapped her gently on the shoulder and leaned in to speak close to her ear, "What do you think? Pretty cool, huh?"

It couldn't be helped this place was so loud that normal conversation wouldn't get through.

Yukina's earlobes turned a light shade of red. She nodded slightly, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Come with me," Silas said, beckoning her over as he led the way to an unoccupied arcade machine.

This particular game was similar to Whack-a-Diglett just like the one she had been watching earlier.

He dropped a game coin into the machine and gestured for Yukina to give it a try.

Yukina picked up the rubber mallet by the side of the console, her body and eyes both brimming with eagerness.

Meanwhile, Silas took this moment of calm to mull over what had just happened.

"No Pokémon eggs… So that means Team Rocket hasn't infiltrated this place yet?"

Was it that they used some underhanded method in the future to get the League to allow Pokémon egg exchanges here?

Or… perhaps arcades were never allowed to trade Pokémon eggs in this world at all?

If it was the latter, then he couldn't completely rule out the possibility that Team Rocket was already active behind the scenes.

But then he chuckled softly what did it matter to him anyway? He'd only asked out of idle curiosity.

"I should really work on reining in that curiosity. If Team Rocket really has taken root here, asking a question like that might put me in danger."

He made a mental note to be more cautious going forward.

That said, with his current strength, most of Team Rocket's small fry wouldn't pose much of a threat to him. And those higher-up Executives? They wouldn't waste their time on someone like him or at least, that's what he believed.

"OH YEAH!"

Yukina shouted in triumph.
