The morning classes came to an end.
Ye Feng rose from his seat and stretched lazily before making his way toward the exit. Just as he stepped out of the classroom, a sharp voice called out to him.
"Ye Feng, we need to talk."
Standing near the doorway, Li Yue's expression was tense, her arms crossed as she blocked his path. Beside her, Ling Ningxue wore a cold expression, her gaze sharp and piercing.
Ye Feng glanced at them, unfazed, and casually stuffed his hands into his pockets. "I'm all ears," he said, his voice carrying a hint of amusement.
Li Yue hesitated for a moment, glancing around the hallway to ensure no one else was around. Then, she stepped forward until she was standing directly in front of him.
"Don't you think you need to explain yourself?" Her voice was firm, but beneath it, there was a tremor of emotion.
"Explain what?" Ye Feng asked, tilting his head slightly as if genuinely confused.
Li Yue's fingers clenched into fists. She had spent the entire night trying to make sense of her emotions, feeling betrayed and manipulated. But now, standing before him, his casual demeanor made her anger surge again.
Seeing her friend struggling with words, Ling Ningxue could no longer hold back. She stepped forward, pointing a finger at Ye Feng as her voice rose in anger.
"You know exactly what she's talking about! Don't play dumb! You pretended to be injured by Harold in the cafeteria just to lure Li Yue into helping you. Then you took advantage of her kindness! It was all part of your plan from the very beginning! And now that the truth is out, you dare feign ignorance? You vile beast!"
Her words dripped with fury, and she was nearly shaking with rage by the time she finished.
Ye Feng turned to her, his lips curling into a faint smile. "And what does this have to do with you?"
"Huh?" Ningxue blinked, momentarily stunned by his nonchalant response.
Ye Feng shrugged. "She's your friend. So what?"
Ningxue gritted her teeth. "So that means I'll protect her from people like you!"
"Oh, I see," Ye Feng said with a slight chuckle. "That makes sense."
Then, as if dismissing her presence entirely, he shifted his attention back to Li Yue. Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, a mixture of anger, hurt, and confusion swirling within them. Despite everything, Ye Feng remained unfazed.
"What do you want now?" he asked, his tone as casual as ever.
Li Yue's tears finally broke free, sliding down her cheeks. She had bottled up her emotions all night, trying to be strong, but his indifference shattered her resolve.
Ye Feng sighed as he watched her cry.
Ningxue, seeing her friend in such distress, snapped. "Ye Feng, if you don't take responsibility, you'll rot in prison for the rest of your life! Her father is the Director of Police! I'll make sure you're reported!"
"Ssssssshhhhhhhhhh..."
Ye Feng raised a single finger to his lips, his eyes locking onto Ningxue's. There was something chilling about his gaze, something that made her instincts scream at her to stop talking. Despite her fury, an uneasy feeling crawled up her spine, and she found herself swallowing her words.
Ye Feng then turned his attention back to Li Yue. If he wanted, he could simply walk away. But he wasn't the type to discard something once it belonged to him.
"So what if it's true?" he said, his tone unchanged. "Does it really change anything? I already told you before—you can be my girlfriend. So why are you making things more complicated than they need to be? I never said I would abandon you. So why are you crying like a child?"
Li Yue's sobs slowed as his words registered in her mind. Her red-rimmed eyes widened slightly. He... never said he would abandon her? That was true. He tricked her, lured her, but... he wasn't pushing her away.
She hesitated, her heart pounding as conflicting thoughts clashed in her mind.
"You're telling the truth...?" she whispered. "You won't abandon me?"
Ye Feng looked at her, his gaze steady. "Why would I lie?"
Li Yue's fingers trembled as she clutched the hem of her uniform. He had manipulated her, yes. But if he truly intended to keep her by his side... maybe, just maybe... it wasn't as bad as she thought.
Ningxue, watching her friend's wavering expression, felt a chill run down her spine. Something was wrong. Something was very, very wrong.
A pair of slender arms wrapped around him tightly.
Ye Feng had sensed her approaching but made no effort to move away. After all, what harm was there in welcoming a beautiful girl into his arms?
As he stood there, enjoying the unexpected embrace, he thought, Who is this little lamb daring to step into the tiger's den?
The girl clung to him for a solid thirty seconds before reluctantly pulling away. As she did, Ye Feng got a good look at her face and was momentarily taken aback.
It was Bai Shuang.
At eighteen, Bai Shuang had matured into a breathtaking beauty. Her once-soft features had sharpened into a delicate yet striking elegance. Her high cheekbones and perfectly sculpted jawline accentuated the natural grace she carried. Her deep black eyes shimmered like a starry night, holding an intensity that was impossible to ignore. Her porcelain skin glowed with an almost ethereal radiance, flawless and smooth.
Her long, silky hair cascaded past her shoulders, framing her face and adding to her allure. Her lips, full and naturally rosy, curved ever so slightly, carrying an unspoken promise of warmth and mischief. Gone was the innocent charm of her younger years—Bai Shuang now exuded sophistication and confidence in equal measure.
Ye Feng stared at her, trying to recall who she might be, while beside them, both Li Yue and Ningxue were left utterly speechless.
Li Yue felt a surge of unease. She had just begun to mend her relationship with Ye Feng, yet now another woman had appeared—one so stunning that she posed an undeniable threat.
