LYRA'S POV
Mum, Dad, and Jacob stayed with me for the night. It was hard getting any sleep because whenever I looked over at Bryn's bed and remembered she used to sleep there, I would start crying again.
It's been three days now, and I still can't get over it.
I don't know what Alpha Kymon is up to. He instructed the college to be shut down till Bryn's murderer is found.
Everyone is living in fear and panic because of him.
I move through the mist till I can see Cas, standing by the lake, upper body naked with seven males that look his age. An eagle tattoo is sprawled across every one of their back.
He's talking to the males. One of them notices me and smirks before saying something that makes Cas turn abruptly to me.
His eyes widen, and he's now walking towards me quickly. He grabs my hands and pulls me away from the sight of the males.
" What are you doing here Lee?" He asks, his voice very low.
" Teach me how to fight. I want to learn how to defend myself."
His gaze alters into confusion. " Are you okay, Lee?"
I pull away from him. " Yes, I am Cas. I want to learn how to fight and defend myself."
Maybe if I had known how to, I could have saved Bryn. I could have taken that gun and killed Kymon instead.
Cas stares at me for a while too long and then he shakes his head unbelievably. " Why did you have to come here alone? What if someone had followed you and tried to attack you?"
" No one did; I made sure of it," I say, and his lips twitch into a small smile.
" Fighting requires you to inflict pain on someone, Lee; you and I know how much causing pain to people breaks your fragile heart."
I gasp and slap him in the shoulder making him burst into laughter. I remember when a guy tried to force me to sleep with him at a party, and I got so mad I poured my alcohol into his eyes. He started screaming, and so I got afraid that maybe I had gotten him blind, and I began crying to the moon goddess for mercy, and then the male started laughing, and so did everyone else at the party.
Maybe hurting people does scare me but I don't know why the thought of hurting Kymon sounds like floating in the clouds to me.
" On a serious note, learning how to fight means you have to get hurt and I don't want to hurt you." He says, blue eyes staring into mine.
" I don't care Cas. Teach me how to fight."
" Why? I am fully capable of defending you."
" Not every time, Caspian. You are not going to be there every time I'm in danger." I exhale sharply. " Please, just teach me how to fight."
He stares at me, his brow knitted into a sharp line. I hold myself from wilting in his gaze. It's always hard hiding anything from Cas. He is very smart when it comes to detecting things.
" Is this about Bryn's death?" He asks and I swallow. He looks at my throat, frown deepens, and then at my eyes. " Did you see her murderer?"
I am this close to scratching my throat. I don't dare to peel my gaze from his. If he sees the slightest hint that I know who killed her, he would make sure I spill and as much as I want to, I can't. I know Alpha Kymon wouldn't hesitate to kill my family.
" No, Cas, I didn't. If I did, do you think I'd be alive?" I assert. " What if someone comes for me and you aren't there? I'd be the next dead body lying —
" Don't say that," He hisses and runs a hand through his face. " Fine, Lee. I'll teach you how to fight; just promise me you won't start crying when you hit someone in the nose."
A smirk appears on his face, and I roll my eyes before reaching out to send my fist to his nose, but he catches my arm before my fist can make any collision.
" How did you—"
" It's called instincts, Sweetheart." He grins at me and lets go of my hand.
He reaches to ruffle my hair as usual but I duck. He doesn't give up and grabs my arm again, pushing it down from my hair. I laugh, struggling to escape another bad hair day courtesy of Cas.
" If you ruffle my hair, I swear I'll kill you." I snarl and laugh at the same time.
" I'll be glad to die in your beautiful hands," He chuckles and so does seven extra voices.
" We could give you two some privacy if you want." One of the wolves says, laughing alongside the others, and heat springs up my cheek.
I don't realize when I stop struggling till I can feel my hair on my mouth.
" That won't be necessary boys," Caspian says. Looks at me and winks with a proud smile. " Don't you look extra beautiful with this hairstyle?" He whistles
I glare at him with my long golden hair all over my face. Slowly, my glare is replaced with a smile because I just can't stay mad at him. He and Bryn are the only persons I can ever find peace talking to.
I've only known Cas for almost two years and it seems like I've known him forever. I remember when he approached me during Physiology class, a week after I recovered from my accident. He told me he heard about what happened to me and smiled up at me saying I was going to be all right.
He always smiled at me whenever we crossed paths and it wasn't till five months later that I realized he had lost his sister to execution by Kymon.
" Shit!" One of the wolves growls, and the rest of their eyes snap to one particular direction, and their body suddenly become taut.
I frown and look in the direction where they were looking just to see Alpha Kymon, Beta Keeper, and Omega Lyriq heading toward us.
My entire body goes numb when Kymon's dark eyes meet mine.
His gaze shifts to Caspian who is now suddenly wearing a shirt. He doesn't stop walking till he's out of our site, and I'm just here standing and wondering how to breathe again.
