Chapter 43

Damian answered with a completely serious expression, "My leg's gone numb. I need your help."

Elena scowled. "Convenient excuse."

Still, she didn't push him away.

Damian didn't lean on her too much—just enough to keep her close. His arm rested lightly around her shoulders, his warmth seeping into her skin.

By the time they reached the roadside, Adrian had already pulled up with the car.

Elena helped Damian into the vehicle before climbing in herself.

As the car sped off into the night, she couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of something much bigger.

It was a long way from the main road, and without a ride, there was a real chance she might run into Dominic's men. That wasn't a risk she was willing to take.

Adrian kept his eyes on the road as he asked, "Master, should we head back to the estate or…?"

Damian leaned back, eyes closed as he steadied his breathing. "Take us to South Hill."
