"The prophecy of the Great Toad Sage was actually correct."
These words from the Sage of Six Paths were like a weak flame, reigniting the hope in Naruto's already desperate heart.
With tears in his eyes, Naruto stood up once more, looking at the Sage of Six Paths with a mixture of confusion and determination. "What do you mean?"
The Sage of Six Paths smiled and asked, "Aren't you curious why you met me here?"
Naruto frowned.
That was true—hadn't the Sage of Six Paths completely disappeared after the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War? Why was he meeting him again now?
Could it be—!
A flicker of hope reappeared in Naruto's eyes as he looked toward the Sage of Six Paths, waiting for the answer he so desperately sought.
The Sage of Six Paths met Naruto's gaze and spoke calmly, "Although Boruto did not defeat the Ōtsutsuki clan, the Great Toad Sage's prophecy was indeed correct. Because Boruto did one thing—he sent you to see me."
Naruto's eyes widened in shock. "You mean, I'm here because Boruto sent me?"
The Sage of Six Paths nodded. "Yes. You did die in battle, but your soul was preserved by Boruto using his Pure Eye."
"Boruto carved the forbidden technique of the Ōtsutsuki clan into his own eyes in advance. After being defeated and turned into a vessel, he absorbed a large amount of chakra. The forbidden technique in his eyes activated, and through an artifact, he sent you to me at the cost of his own life."
Naruto trembled, tears welling up once more. "Boruto... my son..."
The Sage of Six Paths extended his right hand, revealing a cracked artifact. "This is the artifact he used."
Naruto snapped out of his grief, his eyes fixed on the damaged relic. "This is... the Ōtsutsuki clan's magic weapon—the Plow!"
The Sage of Six Paths nodded. "Yes. Through this Plow, Boruto sacrificed himself, using a forbidden Ōtsutsuki technique to send your soul to me. And now, Naruto, you face a choice—a choice that could change the ninja world once again."
Naruto stared at him in shock, pieces of the puzzle finally falling into place. So this was what the Great Toad Sage had meant when he said Boruto could change the ninja world!
But...
How did Boruto foresee all of this?
How did he know that sending Naruto's soul to the Sage of Six Paths would make a difference?
And more importantly—how did he learn the Ōtsutsuki clan's forbidden techniques?
The Sage of Six Paths saw the questions in Naruto's eyes and sighed. "Before I answer your doubts, let me ask you something, Naruto. After everything you've been through... do you still think my approach was correct?"
Naruto was silent for a long time before answering. "To be honest, I no longer agree with your way of thinking. The Ōtsutsuki clan is too powerful. If we want to survive, we need to obtain the power to fight back—at any cost."
The Sage of Six Paths sighed deeply. The last time they had met, during the Fourth Ninja War, he had asked Naruto what he would do if Sasuke sought to unify the ninja world by force. Back then, Naruto had spoken of brotherhood and understanding.
Now...
The Sage of Six Paths' expression darkened. "Alas... what my mother feared has come to pass. I was too short-sighted. I was wrong."
Naruto had no words.
In the past, he had believed in peace and understanding. But after witnessing the ninja world's tragedy, experiencing the power of the Ōtsutsuki, and losing his loved ones, he could never go back to the naive ideals of his youth.
The Naruto who once believed in fraternity and understanding was dead.
Sensing the heavy atmosphere, the Sage of Six Paths gave a small smile. "But perhaps... there is still a way to make things right. In this regard, Hamura's backup plan was correct."
Naruto's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Hamura?"
The Sage of Six Paths continued. "I know you're wondering how Boruto seemed to know all of this in advance—how he was so certain that sending you here would change everything."
Naruto nodded, eager for answers.
The Sage of Six Paths explained, "Long ago, I sealed my mother, Kaguya, on the moon, while my younger brother, Hamura, and his people remained there to watch over her. Over time, Hamura grew curious about why our mother constantly looked to the stars in fear. Through years of research, he eventually awakened a unique ability—the Pure Eye."
Naruto's eyes widened in shock.
The Sage of Six Paths narrowed his gaze. "Yes, Naruto. The very same ability Boruto possesses."
He continued, "Through his Pure Eye, Hamura saw fragments of time and space—visions of the past and future, though they were beyond his control. But one day, he saw something terrifying—he finally understood why our mother had always been afraid of the stars."
The Sage of Six Paths' voice grew grave. "The Ōtsutsuki from beyond this world exist. And they are far more powerful and terrifying than we could have imagined."
Naruto was stunned. The Sage of Six Paths had known this all along?
"Then why...?" Naruto clenched his fists. "If you knew this, why did you choose the path you did?"
The Sage of Six Paths sighed. "Because Hamura could not confirm whether what he saw was truly real. And even if it was... he could not determine if the ninja world's destruction was inevitable."
Naruto exhaled. "So you gambled."
The Sage of Six Paths nodded. "Yes, I took a gamble. And now, it seems I lost. Fortunately, my brother Hamura left behind a contingency plan... otherwise, I would have truly regretted everything."
Naruto's heart pounded as he listened intently.
The Sage of Six Paths continued, "Through his Pure Eye, Hamura was able to extract fragments of Kaguya's chakra memories. From them, he learned something shocking. In the Ōtsutsuki clan... the Pure Eye has another name."
Naruto swallowed hard, anticipation thick in the air.
"The Reincarnation Eye."
