And as she glanced at Canary, She knew she was in trouble. Big trouble.
———-
As they arrived at the conference, Lisa and Canary were immediately immersed in a sea of suits and business attire. They made their way through the crowds, exchanging nods and smiles with fellow attendees.
Once they reached their seats, Lisa couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. She had been looking forward to this conference for hours, and finally, she was here, surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the industry.
Canary, sensing her enthusiasm, leaned in close. "I'm glad you're excited," he whispered. "I have a feeling this is going to be a very interesting day."
As the speeches and discussions began, Lisa found herself completely absorbed. She listened intently, taking notes and asking questions. Canary, too, was engaged, his eyes scanning the room as he nodded along to the speakers.
Together, they listened to presentations on everything from marketing strategies to emerging technologies. They participated in lively debates and discussions, their voices blending with the others as they shared their insights and opinions.
As the day wore on, Lisa felt her mind expanding, her thoughts racing with new ideas and possibilities. She glanced over at Canary, who was watching her with a knowing smile.
"You're loving this, aren't you?" he whispered.
Lisa nodded, her eyes shining with excitement. "I am," she replied. "I feel like I'm learning so much."
Canary's smile grew wider. "I knew you would," he said. "You have a thirst for knowledge, Lisa. It's one of the things I admire most about you."
Lisa's cheeks flushed, but she couldn't help feeling a sense of pride. She was glad to be here, surrounded by such intelligent and passionate people. And she was grateful to have Canary by her side.
As the conference came to a close, Canary and Lisa were joined by two men who were Canary's friends and business partners. They introduced themselves as Marcus and Ryan, and Lisa could immediately sense the camaraderie between them.
"Who's this?" Marcus asked, nodding towards Lisa.
"This is Lisa," Canary replied. "She's a colleague of mine."
Ryan's eyes lit up with interest. "Ah, nice to meet you, Lisa. What brings you to the conference?"
Lisa smiled, feeling a bit shy but also curious. "I'm just here to learn," she said. "I'm interested in the industry."
Marcus and Ryan exchanged a glance, and Lisa could sense their curiosity. "Well, we're happy to have you along," Marcus said. "Maybe we can show you around the city a bit."
Lisa first looked at Canary to make sure he wasn't angry about this but Canary showed no reaction.
" Yeah, Sure.." Lisa agreed.
" So, How about we have a drink for now ?" Marcus asked Lisa.
Canary, who had been quietly observing the exchange, suddenly spoke up.
"I don't think that's a good idea," he said, his voice firm but polite.
Marcus and Ryan looked at him in surprise. "Why not?" Marcus asked.
Canary hesitated for a moment before responding. "I just think it would be better if we all went together," he said.
Lisa raised an eyebrow, sensing a hint of jealousy in Canary's tone. "It's okay, Canary," she said. "I can handle myself."
But Canary was insistent. "No, really, it's better if we all go together," he repeated.
Marcus and Ryan exchanged a glance, and Lisa could sense their confusion. "Okay, sure," Marcus said finally. "We'll all go together then."
As they left the conference center, Lisa couldn't help but feel a bit amused by Canary's behavior.
She had never seen him act this way before, and she wasn't sure what to make of it.
"Hey, Canary, what's going on?" she asked him as they walked.
Canary hesitated for a moment before responding. "I just don't want anything to happen to you, that's all," he said.
Lisa smiled, feeling a bit touched by his concern. "I appreciate that, Canary," she said. "But I can take care of myself, really."
" I know. But you don't know these men." Canary warned.
While Lisa and Canary talked in low voices Marcus and Ryan had already got for them seats.
As they sat down to have drinks, a girl approached Canary with a smile.
Canary's expression changed from relaxed to surprised, and he got up from his seat to talk to the girl.
" Canary, Is it really you ?" The girl asked and gave him a hug immediately.
After the hug she held his hand.
" Come and share with Mr a drink !" She said and dragged him away.
Lisa watched with interest, wondering who this girl was and what she wanted with Canary. Marcus and Ryan seemed to recognize the girl, and they exchanged a knowing glance.
"Who's that?" Lisa asked them, nodding towards the girl.
"That's Sophia," Marcus replied. "She's an old friend of Canary's."
Lisa raised an eyebrow, sensing that there was more to the story. "An old friend, huh?" she repeated.
Ryan leaned in closer. "Let's just say that Sophia and Canary have a bit of a history," he whispered.
Lisa's eyes widened with curiosity. She couldn't wait to hear more about this history.
Sophia took Canary by the arm and led him to the bar, chatting animatedly about their past. As they sipped their drinks, Sophia began to reminisce about their time together, her eyes sparkling with nostalgia.
Canary listened politely, but his gaze kept drifting back to Lisa, who was laughing and chatting with Marcus and Ryan. He couldn't help but notice the way she smiled, the way her eyes crinkled at the corners.
' She's busy smiling with other men, And yet she doesn't smile with me ?'
Canary asked himself bitterly.
Sophia noticed his distraction and followed his gaze. Her expression turned icy as she realized who had caught his attention.
"Canary, are you even listening to me?" Sophia asked, her voice tinged with annoyance.
Canary snapped back to attention, his eyes refocusing on Sophia. "Of course, I am," he lied. "Please, continue."
But Sophia's gaze lingered on Lisa, her eyes narrowing. "I see," she said, her voice dripping with venom. "You're still hung up on her, aren't you?"
" Excuse me!" Canary said and excused himself to the washroom.
Lisa was still laughing with Marcus and Ryan so she didn't notice them,
Canary was just in the washroom when the door opened and Sophia came in. He saw her in the reflector and turned to face her.
" Sophia, What brings you to the men's washroom ?" He asked,
" I miss you Canary" She said walking close to him and wrapping her arms around his neck,
" It's been long since we made love," she said and kissed his lips.
Canary was supposed to enjoy the moment but to his shock he felt nothing when Sophia kissed him so he pulled away,
Sophia too was shocked, canary had never backed off from a kiss. Never.
" Canary, What's wrong ?" She asked moving her hand from his neck to his pants.
She almost slide her hands inside his belt when he pulled it away,
" Sophia, I am not in moods." He said and after left her there.
As Canary emerged from the washroom, his face was red with anger. He scanned the room, his eyes locking onto Lisa, who was still chatting with Marcus and Ryan. He strode over to them, his movements forceful and determined.
"Lisa, we need to talk," he said, his voice low and urgent.
Lisa looked up at him, surprised by his tone. "What's wrong?" she asked, but Canary didn't answer. Instead, he grabbed her arm and pulled her away from the table.
"Hey, what's going on?" Marcus asked, standing up from his seat.
But Canary didn't respond. He just kept pulling Lisa away from the table, his grip on her arm tightening.
"Canary, stop," Lisa said, trying to pull her arm free. "You're hurting me."
But Canary didn't let go. He just kept pulling her away from the table, his eyes fixed on some point in the distance.
"Canary, what's wrong?" Lisa asked again, but he didn't answer. He just kept pulling her away from the table, his grip on her arm tightening.
As they reached the door, Canary finally let go of Lisa's arm. "We need to talk," he said, his voice low and urgent.
Lisa rubbed her arm, looking at him with concern. "What's going on?" she asked, but Canary just shook his head.
"Not here," he said. "Outside."
And with that, he pulled her out of the bar, into the cool night air.
