"Yeah, that happened."
Jiang Qin responded casually, not too surprised. He could guess with his back foot that this had to be Ren Ziqiang's doing. That damn simp sold out his own brother just to find a topic girls would bite on. One of these days, he'd have to set him up—teach him how treacherous people can be.
"Don't you feel embarrassed? And you even talk about it openly?" Jiang Tian voiced her confusion.
Jiang Qin looked unfazed. "What's embarrassing about failing? Yesterday, I begged the cafeteria auntie to give me extra meat, and I failed at that too."
"Exactly! The cafeteria auntie's the real ice-queen school beauty."
Zhou Chao, sitting behind him, couldn't resist chiming in.
Hearing Jiang Qin's retort, the Class 3 girls couldn't help but cover their mouths and giggle, thinking, This guy's got a stubborn streak—still holding his ground even after being exposed.
Truth be told, these girls didn't mean any real harm. They were just too full of themselves, and with the semester just starting, boredom set in. Naturally, they looked for someone to mess with, and Jiang Qin—standing out among the guys—became their prime target.
"Jiang Qin, do you just chase anyone who's good-looking? I heard from Ren Ziqiang you were after our Qingqing too."
"?"
Jiang Qin turned around, baffled. Didn't these girls get a wake-up call yesterday? Was the splash not yellow enough, or too sweet or something?
Then he saw Song Qingqing step forward, all high and mighty. "Let me tell you, Jiang Qin, don't get any ideas about me. I'm not the kind of girl you can chase."
"You should get that checked out at a hospital," Jiang Qin said, frowning. "No, wait—neurology probably can't fix you."
His voice wasn't quiet—Song Qingqing should've heard it—but a sudden commotion drowned him out. Curious, everyone turned to look, and no one bothered to dwell on what he'd said.
The noise came from Finance Class 4. A breathtakingly striking girl had stood up and was walking toward Class 3's formation.
The baggy training uniform was a notorious beauty-killer, but on her, it somehow looked adorable and lively. Her delicate profile and pert nose, dotted with a few sweat beads, shone clean and pure like flawless jade.
Everyone's eyes tracked her steps, brimming with curiosity.
This was the girl who'd caused a multi-class stir during the morning lineup—the one who made Cao Guangyu call himself a frog in a well and shattered Zhou Chao's worldview.
The three guys from Dorm 302 watched her approach, scalps tingling, the scene feeling eerily familiar.
Isn't this exactly how Hong Yan showed up in front of us yesterday?
Cao Guangyu's face paled. No way, right?
Song Qingqing, meanwhile, stared in shock as this radiant girl reached Class 3's formation, squinting in confusion.
Everyone was either squatting or sitting, all in identical training uniforms, looking like a neat patch of green radishes. Finding someone in this crowd wasn't easy.
Then, under all those eyes, Jiang Qin raised his hand and waved at her twice. Song Qingqing, sitting behind him, widened her eyes, her brain short-circuiting for a moment.
By the time she snapped out of it, the girl had already glided over to Jiang Qin with light steps. She handed him a bottle of mineral water, wiping sweat from under her cap with her other hand.
"Jiang Qin, I want water."
"Can't open it?"
Feng Nanshu nodded softly, nudging the bottle closer.
Jiang Qin took it, twisted off the cap, and handed it back, though he couldn't help but wonder. This little rich girl's been trained in legit Brazilian jiu-jitsu since she was a kid. I don't know what rank she's at now, but opening a bottle shouldn't be a problem. Is she playing me?
Feng Nanshu tilted her head back, sipping daintily, her long, fair swan-like neck fully exposed.
After finishing, she smoothed her shirt and sat beside Jiang Qin, leaning slightly toward him.
Even after over an hour of training, a faint fragrance lingered on Feng Nanshu—like rain-soaked lilies of the valley, soothing to the senses.
Jiang Qin's gaze quietly flicked to her chest, thinking, This training uniform's absolute crap, before shifting to her face, tracing her pert nose and full cherry lips.
"Getting along with your roommates okay?"
Feng Nanshu's eyes lit up with a hint of joy. "They're nice. They even took me to eat that rainbow cotton candy you won't let me have."
Jiang Qin narrowed his eyes. "Feng Nanshu, were you just throwing shade at me? I don't let you eat cotton candy, so I'm not nice?"
"I said you're nice, but you won't let me call you nice," she replied, looking pitiful.
Jiang Qin paused. "Fair point. No handing me good-guy cards randomly—save those for someone else."
Feng Nanshu took another small sip, her rosy lips now glistening. "Jiang Qin, my roommates saw you yesterday. They want you to treat them to dinner."
Jiang Qin raised an eyebrow. "Why the hell should I treat them?"
"They say you're my boyfriend, so you should treat them to make sure they take good care of your family's Feng Nanshu for the next four years."
"Hah, modern college girls and their damn schemes."
Jiang Qin mentally ran through his schedule. Before the website was done, he didn't have much going on—just military training and that meal he owed Hong Yan.
So, after 6 p.m., he'd pretty much be free.
"How about a not-too-hot afternoon? I'll send you the time and place on QQ later."
Hearing this, Feng Nanshu's lashes fluttered. She turned to look at him quietly, her eyes shimmering like a jade-green lake.
"What's up? Don't wanna eat? Saves me money, then."
"No, I'm thinking about what I want to eat." Feng Nanshu pressed a hand to her chest.
Jiang Qin shifted his position, letting the scorching ground torture the other half of his butt. "I've helped you so much—you better pay me back someday. Ever heard 'In wealth and honor, don't forget each other'? You're already plenty rich, so you definitely can't forget me."
Feng Nanshu thought for a moment, stretched out her long legs, and tilted her dark green military shoe toward him. "You can play with my feet."
"…"
Jiang Qin felt an inexplicable twinge, like she'd hit a nerve.
Meanwhile, the entire field fell into a deathly silence. Everyone stared at the pair sitting so close, their expressions a tangled mix of emotions.
