15. The New Persona, Teo
Matteo walked down the street with a cold look in his eyes, he had just finished selling all of the beast meat he had acquired in the wild. They were of the lowest grade so they were not worth much but the meat and fur or the wild boar beast and the black hound wolf beast did get him enough coins for his next agenda.
Matteo strode over to the alchemist shop to acquire potions, while buying it was an option it was one that veterans rarely used at the start of the game. All he did was to simply exchange some of the herbs he gathered for the potions that would be given.
He managed to acquire the lowest rank health potions, some stamina potions, and a small amount of mana potions. Even if he did not have any mana attack there was still the possibility of making good money if he sold it.
Matteo navigated his way through a column of streets as he headed for his goal, on the way he had a few thoughts in mind to keep him busy. But those thoughts were interrupted by the sudden notification from the system before him, it was a message from the game master and also a threat.
[Notification: 67 out of 500 players have perished. The game master encourages you to try harder]
Mattoe's visage darkened as he thought.
He's clearly mocking us, that damn bastard.
Matteo expected to death roll to rise significantly by the hour, especially if there were more gamers like him who did not indulge in physical activity. All in all it would not matter if they did not have the guts to kill a beast with confidence.
The tutorial session for various classes would be made available only a few hours after the start of the game and it was clear that a few players were waiting for this. Matteo was not, the place would be too congested anyway and only those who could pay could get trained. Even with that in mind he guessed that a lot of players would be able to get a sizeable amount to pay.
If he had picked a less popular class then perhaps he would have done it. As Matteo walked he could hear a ruckus in front of him, he paid it no attention till a voice drew his attention and it was the one voice he had been trying to avoid for a long time.
"Hey you little brat how dare you pass by me and pay me no respect!" It was a furious dragon, or in Matteo's thoughts, the angry dragon. But why was he mad at him?
He could see the dragon with his blond hair and luscious look on his face, of course he had a few bruises here and there but other than that he looks fine and handsome too. Very handsome.
He was accompanied by five other young boys who Matteo guessed were fans of the dragon, they all looked down at him with contempt. And since he was clearly shorter than them all they just have thought it made them seem imposing.
"Pay some respects brat, the dragon here managed to kill two beasts all by his lonesome some. I was there I saw the whole thing." Said one of the boys with a snarky attitude and beefy cheeks.
The dragon nodded with pride. "Damn right I did."
Matteo smirked slightly, he did not know which would be more shocking to the group. That he had killed two beasts himself or that he was the famous noble zero. When the dragon had first confronted him he had thought that he recognised him from earlier but it seemed that the dragon did not like to remember those lesser than him.
"And what has you so smug?" One of them asked.
Matteo straightened his face and accessed the situation, he did not need the dragon taking interest in him. This prompted him to initiate his special plan.
When Matteo opened his mouth to speak, his voice did not come out clear or confident instead it came out with stutters. "I-- I can't hope to be like, Mr dragon sir. He r--really is amazing."
The group fell silent for a bit. The dragon looked down at the sheepish and disgraceful looking boy and rode on his high horse. "You're damn right I am. Now off with you."
Matteo smiled and made his way but the dragon called him back. "What did you say your name was again?"
Matteo paused and shivered evidently. "P-- pardon me?"
The dragons fanboys boomed. "The dragon wants to know your name."
Matteo started to stutter. "Oh boy, I'm, not really sure that's a good idea. I'm a nobody, compared to—"
"Your name!" The dragon interrupted as he looked down at Mattoe with a threatening look that did nothing to faze him. "I did not get it."
Matteo stuttered as he spoke. "T-- Teo, sir. My name is Teo."
The dragon then smiles and waved him off, Matteo continued to walk awkwardly like someone who was oppressed and weak. He had no fear of the dragon remembering that name but he had to give the name and with it came a new personality. A new persona and his first alter ego.
If he was going to grow his strength he had to do that without prying eyes and Teo was just that, a nobody and loser highschool kid with big dreams that got trashed. Nobody would give a damn about him, no one would see him.
It did not take him much longer till he reached his destination, in all this time Matteo did not break character as Teo. He had found a way to alter the way he walked slightly, he supposed playing the persona of Teo would be best for now. He stood before a big but not too big building and smiled.
"Time to make an investment."
