His eyes were overlooking the vast buildings. This particular tower they were standing on, you could possibly see the ocean if you were to look at a different angle.
So mesmerized, and on his left, a woman was leaning on his shoulder, with a teasing tone.
She proceeds, "Having fun looking at the view, Eugene?"
"Fortunately, not you!" He replies as he never took his eyes away from the view.
"That's nice. Poor Natalie not being treated well by her coworker!" Natalie proceeds to express that with a pouty look.
"Well what am I supposed to say? I'm not sure what else I could say about you."
"At least give me compliments." She planted her finger, left it on his cheek.
"I'm not sure if I could."
She smirks, and looks at the city with Eugene. That sense of calm overwhelms them, as they sat down on the edge of the tower. The wind brushes them gently, and sometimes it pushes them further out. "Surprising none of us in the group are never afraid." Natalie states, "I guess in this job, we can't afford to hold back."
"What made you say we couldn't?" Eugene asks.
"I think maybe I have never gotten used to this job in the first place. I would've thought you people were insane."
"Come on now, we're humans."
A curious tone was let out from Natalie, "And let's say you weren't?"
"...Not sure." Eugene has a slight frown as he observes the streets below him, and Natalie had this sorrow look and continued viewing the city afterwards.
Natalie, as she took a few steps back from the edge to give space and hold her axe out to feel its sharpness. With her index finger, she gently brushed it but not cut herself from it, and finds that the axe's bit was less sharp, and its heel was severely blunt. Too much chipped damage from her last fight.
Eugene glanced over to see what she was doing. He informs her, "Blood is not coming off that easily if that's what you're trying to clean off."
She looked up to him, responded, "I mean... yeah.." then looked back at her axe, "But I'm more worried about our next fight. This thing is becoming blunt."
"I see. Need help with sharpening?"
"No, I got the stuff I need. Thanks."
Natalie walks over to her backpack that contained a flat file to sharpen her weapon, an oil, and whetstone. She walks back and sits beside Eugene's right leg.
"What is our next assignment?" Natalie asks him as she prepares all of the tools.
"Well," he replies, "Ryan has further details of the situation. From what I know, we are to track down a criminal."
"...The usual?"
"I guess. It's best to be cautious what we're stepping into each time."
"You got it. And this Ryan guy... how well do you know him?"
"Not much, but I rely on stuff like this."
"And not the group?" Her annoyance creeps up.
He pauses, wondering why she formed that question but he hesitated and assured her. He looks back again to look into her eyes, and says, "It doesn't mean I don't need all of you. You guys are the best at what you do, so don't think otherwise."
"Well alright." She replies.
It was comforting to her. She smiles and nods before continuing on. Eugene on the other hand, notices a couple of familiar faces, people that were walking towards them.
One deep voice called out asking him, "How was your morning, Eugene?"
Eugene walks over, greeting them, "I have been doing okay. What's going on, Theo?"
"Coffee." As he offers him one.
"Oh I'm alright, but thanks for offering."
"No issue! But just... how do you manage? You know... not drink coffee, and especially at this time?"
Eugene quizzes, "Is it really early to wake up at seven? You're not depending on caffeine are you?"
"Unfortunately." Theo expresses this with a tone of disappointment.
Eugene then asks the person next to Theo, "And are you alright, Audra? You've been badly wounded a couple days now."
Audra seemed disinterested as she says, "It's whatever..." but lightens up, "Best not to worry about it too much! These cuts won't suffice."
Eugene was relieved, "Well, you get to live another day."
Eugene, Theo and Audra proceeds to walk over to Natalie where she finally finished sharpening her axe. Audra greeted her, "Yo. How you doing, you maniac?"
Natalie turns over and laughs as she was relieved seeing her. "Be thankful I saved you!" She says. "What brings you here this time?"
Theo butts in, "So did Eugene tell you about what's happening or?"
Natalie responds, "Not much but I think it's best if we get all our information from Ryan. After all, we only just received basic things so any crucial detail would be when we're in the middle of the assignment. Or we rely on him. Whichever comes first."
Natalie stood up as she packed away her weapon in her backpack. With this concerned look, she picked up that Audra and Theo are aware of something she doesn't. Nor Eugene.
Audra gave her input, "This task. I'm certain Ryan knows by now, but Theo and I have picked up information about that crime scene that happened this morning." she then pauses and lets out a shivered tone of realization, "It was... connected."
Natalie, confused and questions it, "What was it relating to?"
"The task we chose... when I got hurt a few days ago. Those people..."
Natalie had her eyes widened, a concerned look. She questions, "The... people we killed?"
Theo got words in with uncanny but mutters himself.
He stares at the floor, and tells himself, "They shouldn't come back. At all."
