Chapter 22: The Tactical War Begins

The anticipation surrounding Blackhaven's next fixture had reached a fever pitch. With their rapid rise up the league table, every opponent now treated them as a serious threat. But this time, it wasn't just about the match—it was about a tactical battle between two masterminds.

Daisuke had spent hours analyzing their upcoming opponent, Crawley Town, a team renowned for their rigid defensive structure and devastating counterattacks. Their coach, Gareth Holloway, was a veteran strategist known for exploiting weaknesses in possession-heavy teams.

As Daisuke stood by the touchline during the team's morning training, he watched his players execute a series of high-intensity drills. Passing, movement, transitions—it all needed to be flawless.

"Coach, Holloway is already making statements to the media," Hana Sakamoto informed him from the sideline, reading off her tablet. "He called Blackhaven's playstyle 'flashy but naive' and said it's only a matter of time before teams figure it out."

Daisuke smirked. "Typical mind games. Let's make sure he regrets those words."

The whistle blew, and the game kicked off. Crawley Town set up in a deep 5-4-1 block, content to let Blackhaven dominate possession while waiting for an opening to counter.

Daisuke had anticipated this. Unlike previous matches where he pushed for immediate dominance, this time, he played the waiting game. Instead of overcommitting, his players moved the ball patiently, shifting Crawley's defensive shape side to side.

Minutes ticked by. The frustration among Crawley's players was evident—they wanted Blackhaven to overextend, but it wasn't happening.

Then, in the 32nd minute, the breakthrough came. A sharp vertical pass split Crawley's midfield, finding Lewis Carter in the half-space. With a quick one-two, he fed Brandon Hale on the wing, who cut inside and fired a low shot past the keeper.

1-0 to Blackhaven.

Holloway's expression darkened on the sideline. He immediately signaled a shift in tactics. Crawley abandoned their deep block and pressed higher, looking to disrupt Blackhaven's build-up.

Daisuke remained unfazed. "They're reacting too early," he noted, observing the changes. Crawley's aggression opened up space in midfield, and he was ready to exploit it.

57th minute—Blackhaven struck again. A precise counterattack saw O'Connell release Carter, who danced past two defenders before chipping the keeper.

2-0.

Crawley managed to claw one back late in the game, but Blackhaven never lost control. The final whistle blew.

Full-time: Blackhaven 2-1 Crawley Town.

Another tactical victory. Another step closer to the top.

Holloway, in the post-match conference, had no choice but to admit it. "Blackhaven is the real deal. I underestimated them."

Daisuke, however, remained focused. The bigger challenges were still ahead. His team was rising, but now the entire league had their eyes on them.

Would they sustain this momentum? Or was an even greater test looming on the horizon?
