Chapter 3

I wrapped myself in my clothes, my expression somewhat unpleasant.

However, this didn't stop him from being moved. He wanted to take Emily home.

"Olivia, wait for me a bit. Sapphire's place isn't far from here. I'll drop her off first and come right back for you."

"You know, it's late at night. It's not safe for a young girl like her to take a cab alone."

I didn't catch the rest of what he said.

And I really didn't want to deal with it.

Because I knew that even if I refused, I wouldn't get the result I wanted.

Watching their retreating figures, I let out a self-mocking chuckle.

Jack seemed to have forgotten that not only was his little apprentice a young girl, but I was one too.

By the time I got home, it was already late into the night.

Lying in bed, I couldn't help but sneeze twice.

I hurriedly rummaged through the medicine cabinet at home, only to find that all the cold medicine had disappeared.

I had a hunch, and just then, Jack came back.

He was in a good mood, even humming a tune.

I turned my head and asked him, "Jack, where's the cold medicine I brought back last time?"

Without looking back, he went to the bathroom, "Sapphire wasn't feeling well and had a bit of a cold a few days ago, so I took it to her."

In that moment, I didn't know what to say. Everything that happened today had long surpassed my emotional capacity.

It wasn't until Jack came out of the bathroom and frowned at me holding the first aid kit that he asked, "Olivia, what's wrong? Are you sick?"

I shook my head and slowly got back into bed.

Jack nodded.

As a doctor, he didn't notice my weak and uncomfortable appearance.

Or perhaps he did notice, but no longer cared.

He wrapped his arm around my waist as usual and kissed my neck, saying, "Go to sleep."

But I knew that neither of us would sleep that night.

Because of his mistake.

I was lying awake due to heartache and sadness, while he was probably sleepless from excitement and joy.

As a surgeon, he was naturally composed, meticulous, and rigorous.

But today, he not only called out the wrong name but also mixed up the dishes.

He had completely mistaken me, his girlfriend, for someone else.

Perhaps only by constantly repeating and savoring a name in one's heart, every minute and every second, could one achieve such naturalness.

Jack rolled over behind me.

Even though we were sleeping in the same bed, it felt as if we were separated by an ocean.

The next morning, we both tacitly avoided discussing yesterday's events.

I quickly got ready and waited for Jack to come out and drive us to the hospital together.

Not until they reached the parking lot did he speak up, "Olivia, I need to pick up Sapphire. She's feeling under the weather today, and I'm worried she might have an accident if she takes the bus to work."
