Chapter 4

My foot hovered in mid-air as I was about to get into the car. I tried to force a smile on my face, but it came out looking rather strained.

After a moment, Jack glanced at his watch again and shot me an impatient look. "Why aren't you getting in the car yet?!"

After mulling it over, I slowly lowered my foot and remained standing where I was. I cleared my throat softly and put on a face mask to cover my pale complexion. "You should go on without me."

Jack, who used to be entirely focused on me, didn't suspect a thing.

He came over and gave me a light hug. His body was enveloped in a faint scent of perfume.

A long time ago, when we had just started working, I bought him a bottle of cologne with my first paycheck.

Jack had scolded me for quite a while after that.

He had always been meticulous about everything.

He said that medical staff weren't allowed to wear fragrances at work as it could affect their judgment.
