Siren had spent his entire life hidden beneath the waves, watching, longing, but never daring to step too close.
Not tonight.
The ocean whispered around him as he drifted closer to the shore, his glowing blue eyes locked onto her. She was so close now. Just a few more feet, and she would see him.
The girl shivered against the cool night air, rubbing her arms. She glanced out at the water, her expression distant, lost in thought.
Siren's heart pounded. Say something.
His lips parted, but no words came.
What could he possibly say? He wasn't human. He wasn't even sure what he was anymore.
But he wanted her to hear him.
To see him.
To know that he existed.
Gathering his courage, he took a breath and let his voice carry over the waves.
"Why do you always come here?"
The girl gasped, spinning around. Her eyes widened as they locked onto his.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
Siren could see the rise and fall of her chest, the way her lips parted in shock. The moonlight reflected in her eyes, and for the first time, he saw them up close—deep, endless pools that seemed to hold a world of emotions.
Beautiful.
Her voice was barely a whisper. "Who… are you?"
Siren hesitated. He had never spoken to a human before. Never imagined he would get this close.
But as he looked into her eyes, something inside him told him that she was the only thing that felt real.
He took a slow step forward, the waves lapping at his waist.
"Someone who understands what it feels like to be lost."
The wind carried his words between them, and for the first time, she didn't look afraid.
She looked like she understood.
And that terrified him.
