Isabel sat nervously in the waiting room, flipping through a magazine to distract herself. She had been waiting for what felt like an eternity to meet with Dr. Lee.
Finally, a gentle voice called out her name. "Emily John?"
Isabel's heart skipped a beat as she stood up, smoothing out her dress. "Yes, that's me," she said, trying to sound calm.
Dr. Lee smiled warmly and extended his hand. "It's nice to meet you, Emily. Please, come in."
Isabel followed Dr. Lee into his office, feeling a sense of trepidation. What would she learn about her past?
Dr. Lee gestured for her to sit down, and then took a seat behind his desk. "So, Emily, I have to say, I'm a bit surprised to see you here. You've been...gone for a very long time."
Isabel's eyes locked onto Dr. Lee's, her heart pounding with anticipation. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Dr. Lee leaned forward, his eyes filled with compassion. "Emily, was in a coma for a very long time. parents...they thought you were gone. But somehow, you...you came back."
Isabel's eyes widened in shock, her mind reeling with questions. What had happened to her? Why had her parents thought she was gone?
But before she could ask any of those questions, Dr. Lee dropped another bombshell. "Emily, I have to tell you something. Your parents...they're not who you think they are."
Isabel's world went dark.
The doctor saw so much likeness in her, and he referred to her as Emily.
" I'm sorry sir, but I'm Isabel. "trying to keep her identity hidden.
Dr. Lee's expression was somber as he began to explain. "Emily John was a young girl who lived in this town. She was a sweet child, and I had the pleasure of being her family doctor."
Isabel's eyes were fixed on Dr. Lee, her mind racing with questions. "What happened to her?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Dr. Lee's eyes clouded over, and he paused before speaking. "Emily John passed away 10 years ago. She was only 17 years old."
Isabel felt like she had been punched in the gut. She was reeling from the news, trying to process what she had just heard.
Dr. Lee continued, his voice gentle. "I remember the day she passed away. It was a tragic accident, and her parents were devastated."
Isabel's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with questions. "What do you mean by 'tragic accident'?" she asked, her voice firm.
Dr. Lee hesitated before speaking. "I'm not sure I should be sharing this information with you," he said, his eyes locked on Isabel's. "But I think you have a right to know. Emily John's parents...they were involved in her death."
Isabel's eyes widened in shock, her mind reeling with the implications. She was starting to piece together the truth about her past, and it was more sinister than she could have ever imagined.
Isabel's eyes were wide with shock as Dr. Lee's words hung in the air. "A house help poisoned her?" she repeated, her voice trembling with emotion.
Dr. Lee nodded gravely. "Yes, I'm afraid so. The police investigated, but they were never able to catch the person responsible."
Isabel's mind was racing with questions. Who was this house help? Why had they poisoned Emily? And what did it have to do with her own past?
She looked up at Dr. Lee, her eyes searching for answers. "Do you remember anything else about the case?" she asked, her voice urgent.
Dr. Lee hesitated, his eyes clouding over. "There is one thing," he said slowly. "The police found a suspicious letter in the house help's room. It was addressed to Emily's parents, and it threatened to harm Emily if they didn't comply with certain demands."
Isabel's eyes widened in shock. "What kind of demands?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Dr. Lee shook his head. "I don't know. The police never released that information to the public."
Isabel's mind was racing with possibilities. What had Emily's parents done to deserve such a threat? And what did it have to do with her own past?
She looked up at Dr. Lee, her eyes searching for answers. But Dr. Lee just shook his head. "I'm sorry, Isabel. I've told you all I know."
Isabel nodded, her mind still reeling with questions. She knew she had to dig deeper, to uncover the truth about her past and the mysterious death of Emily John.
Isabel's eyes locked onto Dr. Lee's, her voice firm. "I need to know more about Emily John's family," she said. "Can you give me their address?"
Dr. Lee's expression was hesitant, and he leaned back in his chair. "I'm not sure that's a good idea, Isabel," he said. "The family...they've been through a lot. I'm not sure they're ready to revisit the past."
Isabel's jaw set in determination. "I need to know the truth, Dr. Lee," she said. "I need to know what happened to Emily John, and why I'm connected to her."
Dr. Lee sighed, his eyes filled with a deep sadness. "Very well," he said. "But be warned, Isabel...the truth can be painful. Are you sure you're ready for this?"
Isabel nodded, her heart pounding with anticipation. "I'm ready," she said.
Dr. Lee nodded, and scribbled down an address on a piece of paper. "This is the address of Emily John's family," he said. "But please, Isabel...be careful. The past can be a dangerous place to revisit."
Isabel took the paper, her eyes scanning the address. She felt a shiver run down her spine as she realized that she was one step closer to uncovering the truth about her past.
