Isabel's eyes widened as she stared at the picture of Emily John. She felt a shiver run down her spine as she gazed at the familiar face.
In her mind, a thought echoed: "I have been reborn after death."
But she didn't say it out loud. Instead, she pretended it was just a coincidence that she looked like Emily.
"Oh, wow," Isabel said, trying to sound casual. "We do look alike, don't we?"
Victoria nodded, her eyes still filled with a mixture of shock and curiosity. "It's uncanny," she said. "I've never seen anyone who looks so much like Emily."
Isabel forced a smile, trying to play it cool. But inside, she was reeling with questions and doubts. What did it mean that she looked like Emily? And why did she feel like she had been reborn after death?
Isabel's mind was flooded with memories of her past life as Emily John. She remembered her childhood, her parents, and her life before the poisoning incident.
As she stood in Victoria's living room, Isabel felt like she was reliving her past. She saw flashes of her old bedroom, her favorite toys, and her parents' faces.
But the memories were bittersweet. Isabel also remembered the pain and suffering she had endured, and the feeling of being trapped in a life that wasn't hers.
Victoria's voice brought Isabel back to the present. "Isabel, are you okay?" she asked, concern etched on her face.
Isabel nodded, trying to compose herself. "Yes, I'm fine," she said. "I just...I don't know, it's just weird seeing all these pictures and memories."
Victoria nodded sympathetically. "I can imagine," she said. "It's like you're seeing a part of yourself that you never knew existed."
Isabel felt a shiver run down her spine. That was exactly what it felt like.
Isabel's eyes narrowed as she thought about the house help that Dr. Lee had mentioned. But as she looked around Victoria's living room, she couldn't shake off the feeling that something wasn't quite right.
"Victoria, can I ask you something?" Isabel said, her voice firm.
Victoria looked up from the photo album she was browsing through. "Of course, dear. What is it?"
Isabel took a deep breath. "Dr. Lee told me that Emily's death was caused by a house help who poisoned her. But I don't see any evidence of a house help living here."
Victoria's expression changed, and for a moment, Isabel saw a flicker of something that looked like guilt.
"I...I don't know what Dr. Lee told you," Victoria said, her voice hesitant. "But I can assure you that there was no house help who poisoned Emily."
Isabel's eyes locked onto Victoria's, and she felt a surge of suspicion. Was Victoria telling the truth, or was she hiding something?
Isabel's eyes never left Victoria's face as she felt a strange sensation wash over her. It was as if a dam had burst in her mind, and memories were flooding back.
She remembered everything. Her life as Emily John, her parents, her friends. She remembered the day she died, and the feeling of her spirit leaving her body.
But most of all, she remembered Victoria. Her stepmother, who had poisoned her and taken over her family's wealth.
Isabel's eyes blazed with anger as she stared at Victoria. "You killed me," she spat, her voice venomous.
Victoria's face went white, and she took a step back. "Isabel, I...I don't know what you're talking about," she stammered.
But Isabel wasn't having it. "Don't lie to me," she snarled. "I remember everything. And I'm going to make sure you pay for what you did."
Victoria's eyes darted back and forth, and for a moment, Isabel thought she saw a glimmer of fear. But then, Victoria's face hardened, and she smiled.
"You'll never be able to prove it," she sneered. "And even if you could, it's too late. The statute of limitations has expired. You're just a crazy woman with a wild imagination."
Isabel's anger boiled over, and she took a step forward. But then, she stopped herself. She knew that she had to be smart, to gather evidence and build a case against Victoria.
She smiled, a cold, calculated smile. "We'll see about that," she said. "I'll make sure you pay for what you did, Victoria. Mark my words."
And with that Isabel turned and walked away leaving Victoria looking shaken and unsure.
Isabel's memories came flooding back, and she remembered the way Victoria used to treat her when she was a child. She remembered the way Victoria would belittle her, make her feel small and insignificant.
She remembered the way Victoria would favor her own biological children over her, making her feel like an outsider in her own family.
Isabel's eyes narrowed as she thought about the way Victoria had manipulated and controlled her. She remembered the way Victoria would make her feel guilty for things that weren't her fault, the way she would make her feel like she was walking on eggshells around her.
Isabel's anger and resentment towards Victoria grew with each passing memory. She realized that Victoria's abuse had been going on for years, and that she had been too afraid to speak out against her.
But now, Isabel was not afraid. She was determined to expose Victoria for the abusive and manipulative person she was. She was determined to make sure that Victoria paid for what she had done.
Isabel turned and ran out of the house, not stopping until she was back on the sidewalk, gasping for air. She couldn't believe what she had just remembered. The way Victoria had treated her, the way she had manipulated and controlled her.
Isabel's eyes stung with tears as she thought about the pain and suffering she had endured at Victoria's hands. She felt a wave of anger and resentment wash over her, and she knew that she had to take action.
She pulled out her phone and dialed a number, her hands shaking with emotion. "I need to see you," she said, her voice firm. "I need to tell you what I just remembered."
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and then a voice said, "I'm on my way."
