Chapter 5

"Are you a family member of Melody? Please sign here. The patient has already..."

James didn't listen to the doctor at all, rushing into the room without hesitation.

I felt my consciousness slowly fading away, my body becoming lighter, and everything in front of me growing blurry.

I knew it. I was dead.

I became a floating soul hovering in mid-air.

Watching James's frantic state, my heart was filled with a mixture of emotions.

James knelt numbly beside me, his eyes vacant, arms tightly clutching my lifeless body, mumbling incessantly:

"Melody, wake up, don't scare me like this. You can't leave me..."

His voice was choked with tears, trembling violently.

People around tried to pull him away, but he only held on tighter, as if by not letting go, he could bring me back.

A police officer stepped forward, saying softly, "Mr. Sterling, please calm down. She's already..."

But before he could finish, James angrily interrupted, "No, she's not dead. Don't say such nonsense."
