The chase ended at the precipice of the Forgotten Timeline.
The swirling vortex, a chaotic tapestry of lost realities, pulsed with an ominous energy, Things are looking really bad now. Kai, Lila, and Dinah stood their ground, their breaths ragged, their bodies aching.
Alaric materialized before them, his eyes blazing with a desperate intensity.
"Enough!" Kai shouted, his voice echoing across the fractured threads of the Weave. "We won't run anymore!".
Alaric's lips curled into a scornful smile. "You won't ? You think you can stop me? You're fools!!. You have no idea what you're dealing with."
"We know you're trying to break time," Lila retorted, her voice firm. "We know you're risking everything for your own selfish desires."
"Selfish?" Alaric scoffed. "I'm trying to save what was lost! To restore what was stolen from me!"
"By risking destroying everything else that exists?" Dinah asked, her voice laced with disbelief.
Alaric's eyes flashed with a raw, almost animalistic grief. "You wouldn't understand. You've never lost anythingthing so dear to you."
He unleashed a torrent of temporal energy, the Weave around them erupting in chaos. Kai, Lila, and Dinah fought back, their anchors creating shimmering shields, their movements a dance of coordinated defense.
But Alaric was relentless, his attacks growing more powerful, more desperate.
"We need a plan," Lila gasped, her voice strained. "He's too strong."
Kai's mind raced. He knew they couldn't defeat Alaric with brute force. They had to outsmart him, to exploit his desperation.
"Dinah," Kai said, his eyes locking with hers, "weave a temporal bind. I'll create a disruption, and Lila, amplify the bind, locking him in place."
Dinah nodded, her hands moving with a practiced grace, weaving intricate patterns of energy.
Kai focused his energy, creating a surge of temporal disruption, destabilizing Alaric's defenses.
Lila, her eyes glowing with a concentrated power, amplified Dinah's bind, creating a vortex of temporal energy that surrounded Alaric.
He struggled against the bind, his energy flaring, his form shimmering and distorted.
"No!" he roared, his voice filled with rage and despair.
"You can't stop me!!"
As the bind tightened, Alaric's eyes locked with Kai's.
"Kai," he whispered, his voice strained, "listen to me. Let me explain something to you boy."
"Explain what?" Kai asked, his voice laced with suspicion.
"I'm trying to bring them back, they're too innocent" Alaric said, his voice filled with a desperate urgency. "My family. They were gone. I'm trying to bring them back".
Is this, You mean you want to change the past! Kai's heart ached. He knew Alaric's grief was real, but he couldn't condone his actions.
"You're destroying everything else that exists in the process, I can't let you do that" Kai said, his voice filled with regret.
"I know, you've grown so much boy, There's something else," Alaric continued, his voice growing weaker.
"Something in there. In the Forgotten Timeline. It's trying to break free. It's in my head. You have to be careful".
His form flickered, the bind tightening around him. "Don't go in there, Kai. It's not safe. They will consume all".
Dinah completed the bind, freezing Alaric in time, his form suspended in the swirling vortex. Silence descended, broken only by the hum of the Weave.
Lila looked at Kai, her eyes filled with a mixture of confusion and concern,
Are you sure?
About what.....
"Should we leave him like that?"
Kai hesitated, his gaze fixed on Alaric's frozen form. "He gave us no choice. He's too dangerous to be left free.
But… he warned us. He warned us about something in there."
Dinah nodded, her expression serious. "We have to take his warning seriously. Whatever's in there, it's clearly powerful enough to manipulate him".
"I don't care about that let just get to the eternal clock and fix time and be done with it", Lila voiced out.
And do you expect whatever is in there wait for us and let us walk free?
"Do we really have to do this now" Kai interrupted them.
'I'm sorry Dinah, I just want to go home, This is just getting too much for me"
It's okay I understand you it'll all be over soon, you'll get to return to Eldermere I promise.
They both laughed, the three turned to face the Forgotten Timeline, their hearts pounding with a mixture of fear and determination.
They had stopped Alaric, but they had also uncovered a new and more terrifying threat, which they don't know of yet.
