As they walked to the gym, Richard couldn't help but notice the way Adrienne's eyes sparkled in the morning light. She was even more beautiful than he had remembered, and he found himself wanting to know more about her.
"Tell me, Adrienne," Richard said, his voice low and conversational. "What do you like to do in your free time?"
Adrienne smiled, her eyes lighting up. "I love to read," she said. "I find it's a great way to escape reality."
Richard nodded thoughtfully. "I can understand that," he said. "Sometimes, reality can be overwhelming."
As they reached the gym, Adrienne pushed open the door and gestured for Richard to enter. "After you, Mr. Thompson," she said, her voice playful.
Richard smiled, his eyes locking onto hers. "Please, call me Richard," he said. "Mr. Thompson makes me sound like I'm 100 years old."
Adrienne laughed, her eyes sparkling. "Okay, Richard," she said. "But only if you call me Adrienne."
As they stepped into the gym, Richard felt a sense of excitement. He was getting closer to Adrienne, and he could sense that she was starting to open up to him.
But just as things were starting to look up, Richard's phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out, glancing at the screen.
And his heart sank.
Richard's eyes narrowed as he read the text message on his phone. It was from his business partner, James.
"Richard, we have a problem," the message read. "Our biggest investor is threatening to pull out unless we can guarantee a major return on their investment."
Richard's mind began to racing as he thought about the implications. He had been so focused on Adrienne that he had forgotten about the business deal that had brought him to this city.
"Adrienne, I'm so sorry," Richard said, turning to her. "I need to take this call."
Adrienne nodded understandingly. "Of course, Richard. I'll just wait outside."
As Adrienne stepped out of the gym, Richard felt a pang of frustration. He didn't want to leave her, not even for a minute.
But he knew he had no choice. He had to take care of this business deal, no matter how much he wanted to be with Adrienne.
With a sigh, Richard answered the call, his mind already racing with strategies and solutions. But as he listened to James's voice on the other end of the line, he couldn't shake the feeling that his priorities were about to get a whole lot more complicated.
As Richard finished his call, he walked out of the gym to find Adrienne waiting for him, a concerned expression on her face.
"Everything okay?" she asked, her voice soft.
Richard nodded, smiling wryly. "Just a business emergency," he explained. "I'm so sorry, Adrienne. I feel like I'm being pulled in a million different directions."
Adrienne's expression softened, and she reached out to touch his arm. "It's okay, Richard," she said. "I understand. Business can be unpredictable."
Richard felt a surge of gratitude towards her. "Thank you for understanding," he said. "I hope to catch up with you again soon."
As they walked back to the lobby, Richard spotted Andre waiting for them, a curious expression on his face.
"Hey, Andre," Richard said, clapping him on the back. "I'm so sorry, but I had to take an emergency call. I hope to catch up with you again soon."
Andre's eyes narrowed slightly, but he smiled politely. "No problem, Richard. I hope everything is okay."
Richard nodded, feeling a sense of relief. "Yes, everything is fine. Just a business issue that needed my attention."
As Richard turned to leave, Adrienne called out to him. "Richard, wait!"
He turned back to her, his heart skipping a beat. "Yes?"
Adrienne smiled, her eyes sparkling. "I'll walk you out," she said.
After walking Richard out, Adrienne returned to the lobby, her mind whirling with thoughts of their encounter. She couldn't believe how much she had enjoyed his company, how easy it was to talk to him.
As she made her way back to the front desk, Andre caught her eye, a questioning look on his face. "Hey, everything okay?" he asked, as she sat down beside him.
Adrienne nodded, smiling. "Yeah, everything's fine. I just walked Richard out."
Andre's eyes narrowed slightly. "And?"
Adrienne shrugged. "And nothing. He just had a business emergency and had to take a call."
Andre looked skeptical, but Adrienne just smiled and turned her attention to the computer screen in front of her.
It was almost time to go home, and Adrienne was looking forward to unwinding after a long day. She had just started to tidy up the front desk when her phone buzzed with a text message.
She glanced down, her heart skipping a beat as she saw a notification on the screen. "Hey, thanks for walking me out," the message read. "I'd love to take you out for dinner tonight."
She replied "who's texting "
Adrienne's eyes widened as she guessed is it Richard? But how did he get my number?
He is a dangerous man ? So many questions came to mind
Another Notification popped up
"Richard with a laughing emoji "
Adrienne's eyes sparkled with excitement as she read Richard's message, but she knew she had to turn him down. She had already promised her best friend, Rachel, that she would attend the opening night of a new club in town.
"Hey, thanks for the invite, but I have other plans tonight," Adrienne texted back, trying to sound polite but firm.
She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should give Richard a reason for turning him down, but then decided against it. She didn't want to lead him on or give him false hope.
As she put her phone down, Adrienne felt a pang of guilt. She had really enjoyed Richard's company, and a part of her had been looking forward to getting to know him better.
But she had promised Rachel she would be there, and Adrienne wasn't about to break her promise. Besides, she was curious about the new club, and Rachel had promised her it would be an unforgettable night.
Adrienne smiled to herself as she finished tidying up the front desk. She was looking forward to a fun night out with her friends, and she wasn't going to let Richard's invitation distract her.
Richard's face fell as he read Adrienne's response. He had been looking forward to spending the evening with her, and her rejection stung.
But he didn't want to come on too strong, so he responded with a casual "Ok, have fun."
As he sent the message, Richard couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment. He had been so sure that Adrienne was interested in him, and now he was left wondering if he had misread the situation entirely.
Shrugging off his doubts, Richard tucked his phone into his pocket and headed back to his room. He had a business deal to finalize, and he couldn't let his personal feelings get in the way.
But as he sat down at his desk, Richard's mind kept wandering back to Adrienne. He couldn't help but wonder what she was doing tonight, and who she was with.
And he couldn't shake the feeling that he had just let something special slip through his fingers.
