Chapter Eleven: A bet with Dr Christopher Jackson.

"Mrs Miriam, you're fine. It's just a regular recurring migraine. I'll prescribe some medication, and you'll be alright. I'll also visit you as often as I can" said Dr Christopher, who was prompted by Lucas to cut to the chase and quickly wrote out a prescription.

Lucas, with his sharp eyes, noticed that most of the medications Chris prescribed were painkillers, despite the tiny print on the bottles.

"Thank you, Dr. Christopher. Sorry for the trouble" Mrs Miriam managed to say weakly, forcing a smile despite the pain that made every breath feel like a stab through her head and body.

"No need to thank me. I'm a doctor; it's my duty. Your health is the greatest wish for Anna and me" Dr Chris said, adjusting his glasses and smiling at Anna. "Take these for three days, and I guarantee the pain will be gone."

Anna frowned, feeling annoyed. Why did he talk as if there was something special between them?

"Three days? Even three years wouldn't help," Lucas interjected, exposing Chris's bluff.

"You haven't even figured out the illness and just prescribe painkillers. Anyone could be a doctor then."

Miriam and Anna looked at Lucas in surprise, unsure why he was speaking this way.

Dr Christopher, feeling his medical skills questioned, snapped his medical kit shut with a loud 'clap' and said,

"I graduated from one of the best prestigious medical universities in this country.Who are you to question my prescriptions?"

"Well, your prestigious degree seems pretty worthless" Lucas retorted coldly. "A migraine is just a headache, but Aunt Miriam is experiencing full-body pain. You hastily concluded and prescribed ineffective painkillers, claiming to be an expertise in medicine. You're just a quack!"

If Lucas hadn't been there, Aunt Miriam might have suffered more under Chris's care.

"You... you're talking nonsense!" Christophers's face turned pale with anger, and he swung his hand at Lucas's face.

"You little brat, acting all high and mighty. I'll teach you a lesson today!"

Smack!

"Oww!!..."

Hearing the insult about being neglected, Lucas's face turned dark. As the other person reached out, he moved too, delivering a slap that unleashed a dark aura.

Chris felt as if his face had been hit by a sledgehammer, the pain unbearable. He flew backward, crashing into the dirt wall with a loud thud, and let out a scream like a pig being slaughtered.

"Try saying that again!" Lucas voice was chilling, like a demon emerging from the depths of hell.

Christopher trembled in fear, too scared to utter a word. It was the first time he had seen Lucas so terrifying.

"Dr. Chris, are you okay?" Anna was startled, worried that Christopher was seriously injured, and rushed over to check on him.

"Get lost!" Chris, consumed by pain and anger, didn't care about anyone else and swung his hand back in frustration.

"Ah..."

Caught off guard, Anna was hit directly. She cried out in pain, her body falling backward. Her face turned pale with fear, knowing that behind her was a pile of clutter that could cause serious injury if she fell.

Just as she closed her eyes in fright, she felt a warm, strong hand catch her, pulling her into a broad, powerful chest that filled her heart with a sense of safety.

"Annabelle, are you okay?" Lucas asked, holding her soft waist with concern.

"I'm fine," Anna replied, opening her eyes to see Lucas. She was astonished. Wasn't he just standing at the doorway a few seconds ago? How did he move so fast to catch her?

Lying in his arms, seeing the worry etched on his sun-kissed face, Anna felt a warmth spread through her heart.

Seeing that Annabelle was okay, Lucas released her and turned to walk toward Dr Christopher. That jerk dared to push Anna, and he intended to teach him a lesson.

"Lucas, pls don't do anything rash," Anna quickly grabbed his hand, afraid he might do something foolish.

Christopher knew he couldn't win against Lucas, so he shouted

"Lucas, I heard your grandpa was a healer too. You keep calling me a quack. Why don't you prove it by curing Mrs Miriam's illness? If you can't, then crawl out of the town of Greenfield and never come back. Do you dare to accept?"

"Dr. Chris, how can you bully him like this?" Aunt Miriam couldn't stand it anymore. Lucas grandfather, Wellington Ross, was indeed a healer, but he passed away when Lucas was about five or six years. What could Lucas have learned back then? Dr Christopher was clearly trying to bully Lucas into treating the illness.

"Lucas, don't agree to this" Anna said, looking displeased as she held Lucas's hand to stop him.

Lucas patted Anna's hand and smiled at her, indicating he was okay. Then he turned to Dr Christopher and said

"Alright, but if I cure her, you have to crawl around the village naked, shouting 'I'm a quack!'" before leaving, deal or no deal?"

"No problem" Christopher agreed without hesitation, sneering internally. He didn't take Lucas or even his late grandpa Wellington seriously. As far as he was concerned they were just a bunch of uneducated quacks.

"Lucas..."

Anna and her mother tried to dissuade him, but Lucas gave them a confident smile.

"Auntie, Annie, trust me.Am okay and I know exactly what i am doing"

Seeing Lucas so serious, Anna and her mother knew he wasn't one to boast. They stopped trying to dissuade him, but they were still very worried.

"Annabelle, could you pls get me some embroidery needles and a candle? I need them" Lucas asked. He knew he couldn't treat Aunt Miriam directly like he did in the temple with Anna, as it might cause trouble, so he needed a cover.

"Okay, i will go get them now" Anna said, not knowing why Lucas needed those things but still cooperated with him and brought them over.

Lucas lit the candle and held the embroidery needles over the flame.

Seeing this, Christopher was startled and stammered,

"You, you're not going to use embroidery needles like acupuncture needles, just like the Chinese people, are you?"

Lucas didn't answer and said coldly, obviously referring to Dr Chris

"I don't like anyone watching while I treat."

Christopher turned red with anger, snorted, and said.

"Let's see what tricks you pull. If you can't cure her, get ready to crawl out of Greenfield" With that, he stomped out.

Anna took a few steps and then stopped, looking worried.

"Lucas, are you sure about this?"

"Anna, believe me. I can do this, just trust me" Lucas said with a serious expression.

"Yeah, I believe you," Annabelle replied, nodding her head before she walked out.
