Sienna zipped her overnight bag, double-checking that she had packed everything she would need for the weekend at her grandfather’s house. Her hands lingered over the soft fabric of the folded clothes, her mind momentarily drifting as she took a deep breath. She had been looking forward to the break, but at the same time, there was a heavy weight sitting in her chest.

She reached for the small, neatly wrapped gift on the nightstand—a present she had spent weeks carefully choosing. Her grandfather had always been a pillar of strength in her life, and no matter what was going on in her personal world, she knew she needed to be there for him.
