chapter 92: no flinching

That night, Elias didn't sleep.

Not because of fear—he had learned long ago to shove that aside—but because of the inevitability of what was coming.

Training with the soldiers.

It wasn't just a test. It was a trap.

The Alpha wanted to see him slip again, to confirm what he already suspected. Elias had been careful all these years, had learned to move like someone fragile, someone harmless. But on that training field, in front of everyone, there would be no room to hide.

If he held back too much, they would mock him. Push him. Press him until he reacted.

If he fought too well, the Alpha would know.

Elias didn't falter. He didn't shrink away, didn't let the weight of their stares press down on him. He walked with the same quiet composure he always did.

The Alpha's smirk was faint, but present.

"Pair him up," he said, voice carrying effortlessly. "Let's see what he can do."

Elias's stomach curled, but he kept his face neutral.

A soldier—bigger, broader, with the cocky air of someone who had never lost—stepped forward. He grinned, cracking his knuckles. "I'll take him."

Laughter rippled through the group. They thought this would be easy.

Elias only nodded once.

The Alpha said nothing, only gestured for them to begin.

Elias let the other soldier take the first move.

The man lunged, clearly expecting Elias to stumble, to flinch.

Elias did neither.

He moved just enough
