I ran for what felt like hours, my feet pounding the pavement as tears streamed down my face. I didn't know where I was going, I just knew I had to get away.
Eventually, I found myself back at my house, curled up on the couch in a ball. I felt empty, hollow, like a part of me had been ripped away.
My phone buzzed with texts from Emily and Matt, asking me what was wrong, but I couldn't bring myself to respond. I just didn't have the energy.
As the night wore on, I heard a knock at the door. It was Emily, come to check on me. She took one look at my tear-stained face and knew exactly what had happened.
"Mia, I'm so sorry," she said, wrapping me in a hug. "I had no idea Rachel was going to do something like that."
I shook my head, feeling a fresh wave of tears. "It's not just Rachel," I said. "It's Jake. He doesn't want me anymore."
Emily held me close, letting me cry. "We'll get through this, Mia," she said. "Together."
But as I looked at Emily, I couldn't help but wonder: would I ever be able to move on from Jake?
