Toga and I took different routes after that. She disappeared into the night, her mood light, skipping like she hadn't just fought a gang of soda-powered morons. I slipped back toward the dorms, pulling my hoodie over my head. I was tired, but my mind was already sifting through the shit she told me.
Dabi was up to something. Shigaraki was restless. And something big was coming.
I needed to be ready.
I dropped the medical mask and threw the hoodie into the inventory, wearing something different before I scouted the area. After making sure my ass would be safe from spanking, I walked in. As soon as I stepped into the dorm, my phone buzzed. Midnight.
"Horny detectors read blueball. Did you sneak out and get blueballed?"
I could hear the smugness dripping off the text. I stared at it for a second before my fingers moved.
"Wanna fix it?"
A response came instantly.
"Oooooh, so bold tonight, Midoriya~! I should be grading, but now I am tempted."
I smirked, tossing my jacket onto the couch as I made my way to the fridge. The dorm was quiet, which meant everyone was either asleep or too distracted with their own shit to bother me. Fine by me. I opened the fridge, grabbed a water bottle, and popped the cap.
Another buzz.
"If I show up, you sure you can handle me?"
I rolled my eyes. "Try me."
She left me on read.
Which meant she was either getting off on the tension…
…or testing to see if I would beg.
I wouldn't.
I chuckled, leaning against the counter, downing half the bottle in one go. I wasn't expecting her to actually pull up, but the idea of her stewing over it, debating whether or not to take me up on it, was hilarious.
I dropped onto the couch, feet up on the table, bottle still in hand, footsteps sounded from the stairs. I glanced up as Kaminari strolled in, stretching his arms. "Yo, you missed the most intense Smash Bros. match of all time. Bakugo nearly threw the controller at the TV."
"Sounds like a Friday."
He grabbed a juice box from the fridge, stabbing the straw into it. "Where the hell were you, anyway? We thought you were just scheming something again, but that usually lasts, like, an hour. You disappeared all evening."
I shrugged. "Had shit to do. Was out. Handled a mess."
He raised an eyebrow. "That code for a hookup or a homicide?"
I took a swig of water. "Yes."
Kaminari blinked. "...You scare me sometimes."
"That is the healthiest reaction you've ever had."
Kaminari took another sip of his juice, eyes half-lidded like he was already halfway to passing out. "Man, I am wiped. I am crashing."
I snorted. "You are drinking juice before bed? At least brush your teeth, you animal."
He blinked at the box in his hand, then shrugged. "Eh, I will risk it."
"You are what is wrong with this generation."
He grinned. "Says the guy sneaking out past curfew."
I side-eyed him. He was too tired to push, but the curiosity was still there, just under the surface. Not enough to ask outright, but enough that he would remember it in the morning. I didn't feel like dealing with that, so I clapped a hand on his shoulder and steered him toward the stairs. "Go to bed before your last brain cell evaporates."
He let himself be dragged, yawning. "Yeah, yeah. Night, man."
I watched him disappear upstairs, waiting until his door shut before heading to the couch. Dropping onto it, I exhaled, rubbing the back of my neck. Now only the faint hum of the heater and the occasional creak of the building settling could be heard.
My phone buzzed again.
Midnight: "Still up? Or do I have to come tuck you in? 😏"
I rolled my eyes and tossed my phone onto the coffee table. I wasn't in the mood for whatever the hell that conversation would turn into. Instead, I leaned back and shut my eyes.
Had barely dozed off twenty minutes before the couch dipped.
One eye cracked open. "You are in my space."
Toru grinned down at me, completely unapologetic. "I was bored. And you were lonely, admit it."
I stared at her. "So you chose to annoy me?"
She flopped against the armrest, kicking her legs up onto the cushions. "Who else am I supposed to annoy?"
"The walls. The ceiling. A traffic cone. Literally anything that doesn't talk back."
She stretched out sideways instead, resting her chin against the curve of my ribs like she'd been doing this her whole life. Like my body was just another piece of furniture she had claimed. Her toes dug into the far cushion.
"You make a terrible pillow," she muttered.
"You make a terrible cat," I replied. "Maybe you make a better weighted blanket than conversationalist."
She smirked, eyes glinting. "That is because if I open my mouth too long, your brain cells try to escape."
"You are assuming they haven't already. You've been talking all night."
She gasped like I slapped her, then flicked my forehead. "Rude! I bring warmth, chaos, and aesthetic, and this is the thanks I get?"
"That is exactly the problem. You bring all three at once like some cursed gacha pull. Get your own couch."
"This one is warm."
She ignored every reasonable part of my existence like it was a hobby, twisting to look at my phone. "Ooooh, secret texts?"
I grabbed it before she could reach. "Nosy."
"I am a journalist at heart."
"You are a pain in the ass at heart."
She nudged me with her knee. "You didn't answer your phone earlier."
"Maybe I hate my phone."
"Maybe it is because it was a girl and you didn't want me to see the horny texts."
I paused, side-eyed her. "You are awfully curious for someone without a face."
She smirked. "You are awfully defensive for someone without a sex life."
"Touche. Enjoy the couch while you still have limbs."
She didn't answer, just curled a little tighter into me like her bones were tired in a way sleep didn't fix. I let her stay.
Toru grinned, god she was beautiful. Too sad only I could see her, or maybe not sad.
"So, I am in your heart?" she teased.
I glanced at her nighties, cute. "Sure, in my heart, in my mind… mostly naked, though."
She turned red. "Pervert!"
I shrugged. "Observation."
She swatted my chest with the back of her hand. "You are lucky no one else can hear the shit you say."
"I am lucky no one else can see how red you get when I say it."
She huffed, crossing her arms. "I hate how good you are at this."
"No, you don't."
Toru huffed but didn't move away. "I was going to offer you my blanket, but now I think you deserve the cold."
"I will live."
She kicked my leg lightly. "You are no fun." She stretched, arms over her head, before flopping down again. "You had a weird day?"
I looked at her. Her hand brushed mine. The rise and fall of her chest, or the tilt of her eyes… I could feel her there. Solid. Warm. Realer than half the people who strutted around the school pretending they had the world figured out.
I exhaled. "Yeah."
She poked my arm. "What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing good."
"Typical."
I smirked. "What about you? Sneaking into my space, what is your excuse?"
She grinned. "Maybe I just missed you."
I scoffed. "Bullshit."
Toru laughed, then settled. "Maybe. Maybe I was just bored. Maybe I wanted to talk to the only person who actually sees me."
That shut me up. Just for a second.
I glanced at her, but she wasn't looking at me. I never really thought about it, but yeah… seeing her probably meant more to her than I ever acknowledged.
"Still wish people could see you?" I asked.
She hesitated, then shook her head. "Not really. But… I wonder what it would be like if they did."
"They would be too busy drooling to function."
She snorted. "Flatterer."
"Honest."
She laughed, but it was soft, not her usual teasing. "You really think so?"
I nodded. "You would break the internet and half the school's GPA."
"But would they talk to me like this?"
That caught me off guard.
"Exactly," she said, catching my pause. "They would see my face, not me. You… you always see me."
"You say that like it is a compliment."
She leaned against my side. "It is. You are too dumb to fake it."
I just groaned. She sat next to me, resting her head on my shoulder. She smelled like shampoo and herself.
"You smell like a woman and crazy," I said.
"Sounds about right," I chuckled.
We sat there for a while, neither of us saying much. Toru shifted a little, getting more comfortable, then went still. Her breathing evened out, quiet and steady.
She then knocked out.
I sighed. Could have pushed her off, told her to go to bed, but whatever. Instead, I sat there, staring at the ceiling. After a few minutes, I decided I wasn't about to let her sleep on the damn couch. So, I slid one arm under her legs and the other behind her back. I lifted her up, careful not to wake her. She barely stirred, just curled instinctively toward my chest like she'd been waiting for this exact moment to arrive.
Her room wasn't far. I nudged the door open with my foot, walked in, and set her down. The bed swallowed her up immediately. I pulled the blanket over her, then stepped back. She mumbled something but didn't wake up.
Just before I shut the door, I heard her mumble again, voice groggy.
"...Ryuu?"
I paused.
She didn't say anything else.
So I closed the door.
I left without making a sound.
I walked back to my room, shutting the door behind me. I pulled off my hoodie, tossing it onto the chair before stripping the rest off. My phone buzzed again, another message from Midnight. I ignored it, dropping it onto the desk.
The shower blasted on, steam filling the space as I stepped in. The water slammed into me, dragging the night off my skin like it was trying to erase what I had done, what I had felt, and everything in between.
Horny level? Reset.
I shut the water off, grabbing a towel and drying off fast. Checked to make sure it wasn't ball side of the towel, I dragged it through my hair, and dropped onto the bed. My phone buzzed again. Midnight.
"Last chance before I get bored and move on~"
I smirked, typing back. "Sounds fake."
The response was instant. "Oh, Ryuu, you wound me 😘 Guess I'll just have to find other entertainment."
"Tragic," I sent back, already tossing my phone aside. Whatever she was fishing for, she could wait.
