Regina's tears flowed like a dam that had burst, endlessly pouring out. She had never expected to receive anyone's forgiveness, but... even her mother had called her "worthless!"
"I'll come see you another day!" Regina said, forcing back her sobs. She didn't even have the time to compose herself before she rushed out, her heart pounding in a frantic blur.
"Regina!" Sean called after her, his face grim as he glanced at Verna, then chased after her. But by the time he stepped outside, there was no sign of Regina.
A deep sense of guilt clouded Sean's face. He clenched his fists, as if holding back something, or perhaps mourning something lost.
Regina bit her lip hard, trying to stifle the sobs rising in her chest. She ran to the stairwell, where she collapsed on the steps, hugging her knees as her body shook violently with uncontrollable sobs.
