Nick Fury Wakes Up

Fortunately, Steve had no objections to the suggestion of changing the director.

When he heard Kai propose Coulson as the new director, he immediately thought of Coulson's unwavering admiration for him. He recalled how Coulson had eagerly followed him around, proudly displaying his complete set of Captain America trading cards, hoping for an autograph. Yet beyond his fanboy tendencies, Coulson was efficient and decisive in handling matters, making him a reasonable choice. Steve had no reason to oppose the decision.

His thoughts drifted back to Nick Fury, who lay injured. He turned to glance at him.

Kai, noticing Steve's gaze, reassured him, "Don't worry, I'll handle Fury. When the time comes, he'll agree with our decision."

Then Kai asked, "Anything else? If not, I'll begin the treatment. His people are growing anxious outside."

Outside the room, Kate had initially placed her full trust in Kai. But as time passed and the door remained shut, her confidence wavered. She began to wonder if taking Nick Fury directly to a hospital might have been a better choice.

Kai, sensing her unease with his abilities, knew he had to act before he lost a potential ally.

Once Steve confirmed there were no further concerns, Kai began treating Fury.

First, he carefully thawed him from the ice, ensuring the bed and his clothes were cleaned to prevent infection. Only after taking these precautions did he proceed.

Kai extracted the bullets embedded in Fury's body. As he did, fresh blood seeped from the wounds. Steve watched closely, concern evident in his eyes. But Kai remained calm, placing the bullets on a tray before raising his hand. A green glow emanated from his palm, enveloping Fury's stomach. Slowly, the bullet wounds closed, leaving behind smooth, unblemished skin.

Steve leaned in to examine the area. "Wow, Kai, your healing is incredible. There's no trace left at all."

Kai chuckled. "That's the benefit of magic. It's far more efficient than traditional medicine."

Next, he turned to Fury's fractured arm. "For broken bones, simple healing magic won't be enough. The bone must be set first, then I can speed up the recovery."

As he spoke, Kai carefully adjusted Fury's arm, aligning the broken bones. Once everything was in place, he cast his magic, sealing the fractures and repairing the damage. Slowly, color returned to Fury's face, and his breathing grew steady.

Moments later, his eyes fluttered open. At first, his vision was blurry, but he could hear voices around him.

As his awareness returned, so did his memories. He remembered the danger, the USB drive he had entrusted to Steve, and the possibility of betrayal. Anxiety surged through him, giving him the strength to finally focus.

His gaze landed on Steve and Kai standing by his bedside, engaged in conversation.

Kai was the first to notice. "Ah, looks like our patient is finally awake."

Steve stepped closer. "Nick, how do you feel? Any discomfort?"

Fury instinctively reached for his chest, expecting to find injuries—but there was nothing. Stunned, he pulled his shirt aside and found that all his wounds had vanished.

Seeing his reaction, Steve explained, "I asked Kai to help. If not for him, things might've gone differently."

Fury turned his attention to Kai and nodded. "Thank you."

Kai simply replied, "You're welcome."

Even after acknowledging his gratitude, Fury continued checking his body. Seeing this, Steve huffed, "Relax. Kai used magic. You're completely healed."

Fury froze at that statement. His hand twitched toward his eye patch but hesitated.

Kai, however, caught the movement. Without pretense, he said, "Your eye was never beyond saving. It still functioned. Now, with my magic, it's fully restored."

Fury's head snapped up, his single visible eye locking onto Kai in disbelief.

"I didn't remove the patch," Kai continued, "because I figured you wouldn't be used to seeing with both eyes again."

For a moment, Fury was silent. Then, without a word, he continued staring at Kai, unreadable thoughts swirling behind his gaze.
