[With Latias acting as a buffer, the strange tension between you and Latios has eased somewhat.]
[Even so, his gaze remains somewhat odd—like he wants to ask something but can't bring himself to say it.]
[You find it a little strange but don't dwell on it too much.]
[Fortunately, since Latias is so energetic, she quickly drags both you and Latios into her antics, making it easy to forget about everything else.]
Latias eagerly showed her brother all the skills and knowledge she had picked up in human society.
She also took Elias to see the place where he had lived as a child—
A small wooden treehouse, its interior lined with soft grass serving as a makeshift mattress.
"Cute, right? Back then, Elias was just a tiny little thing too."
Latias hovered beside the treehouse, running her hand over the now-worn wooden planks, a trace of nostalgia flashing in her eyes.
Perhaps for safety reasons, the treehouse wasn't built too high. Even standing on the ground, Elias could easily reach up and touch it.
Seeing the home he had lived in before the age of two, he couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity.
---
[After that, under Latias' guidance, you met the Pokémon that had once been your childhood playmates.]
[Among them, a Kadabra was particularly enthusiastic toward you.]
[You soon learned that back when it was still an Abra, you had been very close. In fact, your psychic abilities first awakened while playing with it.]
[The primitive life on the island made time slip by unnoticed, and before you knew it, night had fallen.]
Away from the noise of the human world, the night sky appeared even more pristine.
The vast expanse of stars scattered across the heavens, twinkling like countless glowing eyes.
Elias, Latias, and Latios stood on the beach, gazing toward the distant horizon as the ocean breeze swept past them.
"So tired..."
After playing all day, Latias finally began to feel exhaustion. She reverted to her human form, letting out a sleepy murmur.
Latios instinctively reached out, wanting to support his sister.
But just as he extended his arm, she had already leaned onto Elias.
"Let me rest for a bit..." she murmured.
Elias wrapped an arm around Latias without hesitation, while Latios, his outstretched arm left hanging, froze awkwardly in place.
Elias coughed lightly to break the silence.
"Mom's tired. Maybe you should find a place to rest too, Uncle?" he asked softly.
From his perspective, Latios probably wasn't in the best mood right now.
Sure enough, Latios' expression darkened even further upon hearing those words.
But perhaps remembering the real reason he had come, he suppressed the urge to leave.
Under Elias's puzzled gaze, Latios waved a hand, releasing a pulse of psychic energy.
The energy split into two small, glowing spheres and attached themselves to Latias' ears—like tiny earmuffs.
Seeing this, Elias's expression turned serious.
He could tell that the purpose of these "earmuffs" was to block sound.
In other words… whatever Latios was about to say, Latias wasn't supposed to hear.
But what could be so important that she had to be kept in the dark?
As Elias speculated, Latios finally spoke.
"Elias, after spending the day here, what do you think of this island?"
Once he had confirmed his sister was asleep, Latios asked in a low voice.
Elias hadn't expected this to be the opening question, but he answered honestly:
"It has a unique charm. The ecosystem and Pokémon here are things you'd never see in a bustling city."
"It feels free-spirited. People who love nature would probably like it here."
Hearing this, Latios nodded in approval.
"Then what if you had to stay here permanently, only allowed to leave on rare occasions?" he asked next.
"I'd probably get bored and start thinking about escaping."
Elias answered without hesitation.
The island's ecosystem was certainly interesting, and there were Pokémon like Abra to keep him company.
But…
After experiencing the complexity of human society, after tasting the warmth and liveliness of the world beyond, he couldn't imagine living in isolation.
A few weeks might be fine, but if it were forever, he would definitely want to return to the human world.
Latios didn't seem surprised by his response, because—
"Latias feels the same way," he said.
"The moment she visited human society, she became enamored with its differences from the Pokémon world."
"She might have been able to suppress that longing before… but ever since you came into the picture, she no longer holds back."
"Because now, she wants to stay in the human world with you."
Latios' heart ached as he recalled his failed attempts to call her back—only to be met with her angry refusals.
His sister… had run off with a human.
Even though it pained him, Latios showed no sign of it on his face.
After glancing at his sister, still nestled against Elias, he continued:
"Her choice isn't necessarily wrong. As her brother, I should support her."
"But… you do know about her unique physiology, don't you?"
At those words, Elias gave a small nod.
Latias had already been open about her condition, which explained why he often caught a sweet, honey-like scent from her.
"I'll protect her from poachers," he replied.
But instead of looking reassured, Latios shook his head.
Then, without a word, he handed Elias a large bundle of shimmering, gem-like objects.
"…What's this?"
Elias frowned slightly.
"These are one hundred [Star Pieces]. In human society, they're worth an unimaginable fortune."
"I want you to take this money and leave. Stay away from Latias. I will ensure her safety myself."
"The human world is simply too dangerous for her."
At last, Latios revealed his true purpose.
As he spoke, his gaze remained locked onto Elias, scrutinizing his every reaction.
Greed was a common trait among humans.
While Latios could understand that, he would not allow his sister to remain with someone who valued wealth above all else.
This was a test—to see whether Elias could resist temptation.
Hearing his words, Elias immediately understood what Latios was trying to say.
His expression darkened.
He would never allow anyone to take Latias away from him—not even her own brother.
Looking directly into Latios' deep blue eyes, Elias spoke, his voice steady and firm:
"I won't interfere with Mom's choices. As long as she wants to stay in the human world, I'll stay by her side—forever."
"As for her safety…"
"If something like what happened a few days ago ever happens again, I will protect her with my life."
"That is something you don't need to worry about."
Elias wasn't exaggerating.
To him, Latias' existence was more important than his own. After all, he had only survived this long because of her care.
Perhaps sensing the sincerity in his words, Latios' gaze softened slightly.
For the first time, he began to accept that maybe… his sister had made the right choice.
Staying with Elias might be better than staying with him—someone who had only a handful of years left to live.
"…Remember what you said today."
The test was over.
Latios gave Elias a rare look of approval.
It seemed like he wanted to say something more—
But then, noticing the faint curve of his sister's lips, he abruptly stopped.
He said nothing further.
Instead, he handed Elias a letter he had prepared in advance before turning and flying off into the night.
---
[Your conversation with Latios ends abruptly, leaving you feeling a bit strange.]
[But after thinking carefully, you realize—]
[Latias may not have been able to hear your conversation directly… but through telepathy, she could have experienced everything through your ears.]
This silly mom… actually managed to be clever for once.
Elias sighed, watching the subtle smile playing on her lips.
So she had never been asleep in the first place.
Both he and Latios had been tricked.
…Though perhaps, Latios had figured that out too.
---
[That night, you fall asleep on the beach, holding a "sleeping" Latias in your arms. Your psychic power ensures neither of you wake from the cold.]
[As for Latios' letter… you decide to read it after returning home.]
