The Unexpected Visit

She wasn't expecting him to show up at her friend's house.

Yet there he was, standing in the doorway, looking annoyed.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, startled.

He crossed his arms. "You left without saying anything."

"I needed time to think."

His jaw clenched. "And did you?"

She hesitated.

Then, he did something unexpected—he softened.

"I'm not forcing you to stay," he said quietly. "But don't run. If you want to leave, say it to my face."

Something in her cracked.

She had been pushing him away, afraid of what she might feel.

Maybe it was time to stop running.
