When Pretend Becomes Real

Back home, things felt different.

He was still the same man—serious, powerful, unreadable.

But now, he wasn't hiding how much he cared.

It was in the small things:

• The way he waited for her at dinner instead of eating alone.

• The way his fingers brushed hers when he handed her coffee.

• The way he looked at her when he thought she wasn't watching.

One night, they were watching a movie when she asked, "Why did you marry me?"

He didn't answer immediately. Then, he turned to her and said,"At first,it was for convenience. But now?I'm not so sure anymore."

Her breath caught.

Maybe she wasn't so sure anymore, either.
