Chapter 47: The Choice

Shade stepped onto the street, facing Selene and the Crimson Vultures.

Selene smiled. "There he is. Our king."

Shade's jaw clenched. "I didn't agree to this."

Selene stepped forward, her eyes gleaming. "Oh, darling. You did the moment you took my deal."

Shade's body burned at the memory of that night—the blood, the power, the hunger.

Selene tilted her head. "You feel it, don't you? The strength. The control. You're evolving, Shade."

Shade exhaled. "And what? You want me to lead you?"

Selene smirked. "Lead, rule, burn this rotting city to the ground. Whatever you want."

Shade didn't answer.

Because for the first time—

He wanted to say yes.

Jade's voice broke through the silence. "Shade. Don't do this."

Shade turned.

Jade was staring at him, wide-eyed, pleading.

Selene chuckled. "Oh, sweetheart. He wants this." She stepped closer to Shade, trailing her fingers over his jaw. "You need this."

Shade swallowed hard.

Because the truth?

She wasn't wrong.
