Chapter 6: Betrayal part 2

Kail Pov

I jolted awake, a cold sweat plastering my skin to the sheets. Something felt terribly wrong, a primal instinct screaming at me to act. I glanced down at Nyara, her beautiful face serene in sleep. I hated to disturb her, but the unease was overwhelming.

Slipping out of bed, I noticed an unsettling silence. The castle, usually alive with the soft hum of magic and the quiet footsteps of guards, was eerily quiet. Walking down the halls, my unease intensified. Then I saw it – a horrifying sight that sent a jolt of adrenaline through my veins. The city, my city, was on fire. People were fighting in the streets, their cries echoing through the night.

"Guards, protect the castle!" I roared, my voice shattering the silence. I spun around, sprinting back towards our room, my heart pounding in my chest. I had to wake Nyara, we had to protect Iyla.

"Nyara, wake up! The Kingdom is under attack!" I shouted, shaking her gently but urgently. She gasped, her eyes snapping open, wide with confusion and fear.

Nyara and I raced towards Iyla's room, our footsteps echoing in the now chaotic castle. Nyara rushed to the bed, scooping up our daughter, her face etched with terror. Iyla clung to her mother, her small body trembling.

We ran through the halls, desperately searching for a safe haven, but everywhere we turned, we were met with the gruesome reality of the attack. Blood stained the walls, and the heavy thud of footsteps grew closer. I pushed Nyara and Iyla behind me, shielding them with my body.

As we huddled around a corner, the sounds of screaming and slashing filled the air. It was chaos, pure and unadulterated. Nyara clutched Iyla tighter, burying her daughter's face in her chest, shielding her from the horrors unfolding around them.

"We have to make it to the Star Night Cove," I said, my voice grim. It was our only hope. The cove was a place of immense power, a place where we could perhaps find a way to escape or at least defend ourselves. I steeled my resolve, knowing that the path ahead would be fraught with danger. I pushed forward, engaging the human soldiers in fierce combat, each strike fueled by a desperate need to protect my family. Magic crackled around me as I fought, blasting away the invaders and clearing a path for Nyara and Iyla.

Finally, we burst out of the castle doors and into the night. That's when we saw it, and felt it – our land, our kingdom, was dying. The Night shining starts of our kingdom was now just in flames. We could hear screams cries and the roaring of the Flames. The celestial glow that had always bathed Lunaris was replaced by the orange flicker of destruction. I could hear my wife trying to hold in her sobs as we ran. Each step was a stab in my heart. But i could not stop i had to protect my family so we ran to the Star Night Cove.
