Chapter 7 Betrayal part 3

Nyara Pov

Holding my terrified, scared daughter, tears streamed down my face. The magical energy that had always pulsed through the kingdom, the lifeblood of Lunaris, was fading, replaced by a chilling emptiness. I prayed to the stars, begging for guidance and protection for my family.

As we stumbled closer to the Star Night Cove, our path was suddenly blocked. Humans, their faces contorted with malice, surrounded us. "It's too late. Give up and surrender quietly," one of them sneered, their voices dripping with false bravado.

Kail pushed me and Iyla behind him, his eyes blazing with righteous fury. He was ready to unleash our powers, to defend our family with every fiber of his being. But something was wrong. When Kail unleashed his power nothing happens then is when the humans laugh.

" HAHHAH Its to late you fools look who is shocked" They laughed, "It's all thanks to that rivers water. It's changed us," one of them said, their eyes gleaming with newfound strength.

Kail and I exchanged horrified glances. The river water… they had somehow corrupted it, twisted its life-giving properties into something dark and destructive.

Kail, ever the strategist, acted quickly. He unleashed a blinding wave of darkness, momentarily disorienting the humans. Using his sword, he injured them, slowing them down, knowing that the altered river water prevented us from killing them outright. We needed to buy time.

Finally, we were mere inches from the Star Night Cove, our only hope for escape. Kail pulled me and Iyla into a tight embrace, kissing Iyla on the head and then me. But the kiss felt wrong, final, like a goodbye.

Tears welled in my eyes as I looked into his face. "Promise you'll come back to me, to us. You can't leave," I sobbed, clutching at his shirt, Iyla mirroring my cries.

His hand gently caressed my face, his forehead pressing against mine. "I love you both more than anything," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

Then, with a surge of strength, he pushed us into the cove, turning to face the approaching humans. "I love you guys. Now run!" he shouted, his voice filled with both love and resolve.

I cried out, running through the cove, desperately searching for the Shine that would transport us to the world of the stars, a place of safety and sanctuary. I could still hear Kail fighting, the clash of metal against metal, his pained grunts mingling with the taunts of the humans.

Then, it happened. A searing pain ripped through my chest, and a wave of grief washed over me, so profound that it threatened to consume me. I knew, with a certainty that chilled me to the bone, that Kail was gone.

My heart stopped, our connected runes on my forehead, the moon rune, started to bleed and a rune on one of Iyla's arms started to fade. My voice was a broken sob, filled with terror and despair. "He's dead… I can't feel him."

Iyla cried, her small voice echoing my pain. "I can't feel daddy."

Sobbing uncontrollably, I continued to run, pushing myself to the deepest part of the cove, almost reaching the Shine. But it was not to be. A sharp pain exploded in my leg, sending me crashing to the ground, clutching Iyla protectively.

"I told you guys she wouldn't get far," a human voice gloated. Hearing them approach, I pushed Iyla towards the Shine, whispering fiercely, "I love you, my star. Now run to the cove and don't look back. I'll be right behind you." I kissed her head, then pushed her towards the shimmering light, watching as she stumbled towards it, her small form silhouetted against the radiant glow. The child makes it there safely.

I tried to fight back, even with the gaping wound on my leg. Summoning the last vestiges of my power, I held them off, desperately buying time so that the stars could take Iyla away, to safety. Getting another slah on my side from the human I dropped to my knee by golden blood leaking out I turned to look at the Star Night Cove shine smiling that my baby is safe . Closing my eyes just when the Swords and spears where about to stab me thats when I felt a small embrace hugging me when that piercing me through I looked to see my baby my star hugged to my chest the same swords and spears that where in me where also in her.

I heard the humans exclaim, "Shit, man, that's a kid!" "No one said that there was a kid here!" "You guys know I don't kill kids, man!" "These shit was not part of the plan!" Tears dropped down my face. "Why did you come back?" I said, choking on my blood, hugging Iyla back in my chest.

"IT hurts, mommy," that was the last thing she said before she went limp and my eyes slowly closed. Everything went dark.
